An Idea for the Game Editor

Postby Omulexi » Sun Sep 02, 2012 6:28 pm

While trying to insert my map tiles and put things together, I found it to be rather taxing when you have alot of transitional tiles that you have to keep making actors for, assigning Animations and what not. I don't have a problem doing it once so that they are in there but would something like this would make things a little less cumbersome. The reason is when I use a tile more than once, and I'm scrolling around the map, I like to have it right there at my disposal to be able to drop it in place without scrolling back top where that particular tile is located to clone it or scrolling in the actor list. I made a graphical representation of what would be fairly useful. A palette that holds your actors with the animations already attached which allows you to save the palette with the actors on it and also when you drag and drop, it would be the same as the clone function. anyway its just an idea.

Something I made quickly that may prove useful if it were implemented in G-E. The Zoom is the same as + & -, Add image (add actor and animation) then adds it to the palette. (oh yes i know i spelled Palette wrong LOL) Save Palette allows the actors and images to be saved to load up at a later time or another game. Possibly even add a rotate actor button.

I really like this idea! It sounds especially useful when dealing with big complicated maps!

yeah i noticed some serious time being taken up when adding my forest tiles (40 tiles). It would be great to have a batch program, but yeah moving around in an overworld that you created gets a little cumbersome when your bag of tricks (tiles) is on the other contenent. I'm attempting to create a Ultima 4/5 | warcraft 2 type of rpg. In doing so, it requires alot of tiles and transitioning ones to make things equal out. I took the time and made up something in PS that I thought may add a little appeal to the G-E proggy. It would even be nice to be able to import tilemaps from other programs like TilED, but im afraid that would be overstepping a little bit. I'm just noting what I am finding a little difficult for me (being new) with hopes it doesnt fall on deaf ears is all. Thanks for reading.

Well I think you should set up a vote in this thread, and if the votes get high enough in this features favor then hopefully Makslane will consider it!
