But, technically you do need a license for SDL (used by Game Editor) for each game you release commercially. Thats $100 per game for iPhone, and $500 per game for other platforms. Ouch!

lol akr told me that you only have to pay for sdl if you publish an iGame ..

akr, would know better than me. Maybe the Buy-now page needs updating, but under all version of GE it states that the SDL license is not included, and on the SDL site it says that a license is needed for every commercial product. I'd be very pleased if I don't need to buy an SDL license for my iPhone game ;) but we could do with clarification on this.

Lol, you did :) But the page doesn't say that the license requirements are different for other platforms and doesn't say that it applies only to iPhone, so we could still do with some clarification :D

A SDL license is required if

1) SDL 1.3 is used
AND
2) SDL is linked statically to product

This is only the case for iphone.

All other ge targets and products do either use 1.2 (windows, mac) or do link dynamically (android).

Thanks Akr, is there any chance that this info could be added to the main pages of this site to avoid future confusion? As it is, the lack of info on this subject might be enough to put people off using GE if they think they need a $500 dollar SDL license to release a commercial non-iPhone game when they actually don't.
