Smartphone executable doesn't run? - UPDATE: Does now! ;)

Postby StarFishDesign » Tue Dec 06, 2005 11:59 am

Does anyone experience the same problem as here...?

I created a game (176x220 Smartphone) and exported it as Smartphone executable.
I tried to run it on several machines with WM2003SE:

+ C500
+ VOQ A11

Each time I start I get an error message: Access Denied

If I start the executable on a WM2003SE PocketPC (!) I get the message that I have to use a device with a resolution of 176x220 pixels. Which means, the games resolution must be OK.

Any Idea?

Can I send a test version to you?
With this version I can identify the error location.

It may be a dumb question, but are your Smartphones application-unlocked? Meaning, can you run unsigned applications on your Smartphone? One of the things that I had to deal with on my SMT5600 and MPx220 was that I had to turn off the digital signature security, which was reported on modaco.com and coolsmartphone.com, among other places.

With Windows Mobile 5.0 on PocketPCs, we had to share the same burden as many Smartphones, but at least a couple of registry changes was able to turn that feature off.

Both smartphones are completely unlocked - Software and Network.

I am using CellDoom, spvQuake and also SmartExplorer (non signed) on my phone... among others.

UPDATE - UPDATE

I've now sent my game to several friends with WindowsMobile SmartPhone devices...
Every user started the game by direct starting it (no .lnk files).

A) recompiled my game for a friends' Qtek 8310 (WM 2005) and QVGA display: Game runs without troubles (in smaller area)

B) HTC C500 (WM2003 SE) 176x220: Game doesn't run (error: no valid windows CE program)

C) Sierra VOQ A10 (WM2003 SE) 176x220 - MY phone: Game doesn't run (error: "access denied")

D) Sagem MyS-7 (WM2003 SE) 176x220: Game doesn't run (error: no valid windows CE program)

>> It can't be an issue regarding the Second Edition, because on my HCT MDA Compact (WM2003SE PocketPC Phone Edition) the compiled EXE for PocketPC is working.

>> It can't be an issue that the phone is locked because all other un-signed software works without troubles.

>> It has to do with SMARTPHONE WM2003(SE) only - since on all devices the EXE can't be executed because it can't be recognized as valid executable.

Any help or feedback appreciated!

Works now !
There have been some troubles with a .DLL - Makslane managed to bugfix it.

Tested successfully on the following devices:
+ VOQ A10 WM2003SE
+ O2 XPhone WM2003SE

Thanks ;)

Everyone who's interested in my coming game...

Have you tried the demo of my game?
You're the 3rd betatester - if it works, just contact Makslane - he shall send you the new WindowsMobile Kernel for compiling.

Try to contact Makslane - he can send you the new Kernel. I am currently not at home, online via Handheld and have no access to my computer right now.
