"TSO Balls" Testers and feedback.

Postby TSO » Thu Oct 14, 2010 11:53 pm

Demo is pretty well done.
Would like some testers and feed back. =)

Download Windows
Download Linux

Known problems/bugs:
*Sometimes a harpoon may over kill a target at times killing more then they should.
*Bullets still fly when player is hit and new round begins.
*clock might over count or not stop at end of countdown.
*Round doesn't end if counter finishes.
*may be some glitch that causes player to shot bullets freely allowing spam.

Open to better game titles but for now I keep it simple.

Soon to come:
Credits.

Thx in advance =)

Just tested it for a few minutes, here are some notes.

First off, just with the menu, I would slow down the fire a bit, and instead of a mouse over event on the text to create the selection flames, put it on a filled region. Essentially make a filled region the clickable region, instead of just the text. (also for the help menu)

It says I am supposed to start with 3 lives, I only have one extra life.

I got two powerups, the bullets then the grapple but the display weapon still showed the bullets. Also if you die the balls are destroyed and will sometimes create powerups,

The GameOver screen I think should display the old and new hiscore, partially because it is not obvious that it registered your new score at all. Maybe if you decreased the time where it shows the new screen.

There should be a way of moving back to the menu from the credits page. I think there were two other things, but I have to go. Overall nice game, could use a few more levels, and some other things to make the game more interesting.

Lol good eye... lowered life count test some things... will fix that.
I'll look into the other things.

I'll try out the fill region you suggested. I kinda knew of that probablem but wasn't sure how to fix it.

Not quite sure what you mean about highscore part..

Not sure if the powerups spawning will be a problem.
And one hook power allows shots to stick to ceiling for a time... no graphic for picking it up... maybe that isn't right but since my graphics card has been glitch haven't gotten around to properly PANG if I recreated it wrong.

What I meant was that when you end the game, either by winning or dying, you should be able to see your score immediately. When I played it first, I thought it didn't register my hiscore, as it was showing a 000000, but I figured out if you wait a bit, it will then show your score. So I'd either decrease the time you have to wait to see your score, or show both the old score and your score. The powerups aren't really a problem, just kind of weird to see. I haven't played the original, but I feel it should change the graphic back to the hook if I am firing hooks.

-Edit
The bullet weapon gives you extra points, not sure if you knew that. Also I got a harpoon after getting the bullets and it didn't give me the harpoon weapon, so not really sure what should happen there, thought I'd mention it though.

Yea while fixing some things you mentioned.. I found a TON of code missing.

Must have been from a past crash mid coding cuz all smallest balls should pay 100 each. but only 1 specific type did and only for bullets.

Fixed all that now.
adding 5 levels.
The score system shows old highscore then declares new highscore if total exceeds last one.
Lives count fixed.
Fixing positioning spawns for each level...
hopefully it all done tomorrow >.<

EDIT: There are actually 2 very different power ups I made very similar. only different in size and 1 small detail.
The harpoon double shot gun which is a large spear.
And the 'hook' power that allows the default harpoon and the double harpoon collide with walls and stay until to much time or a ball comes.

What is much to small to see in this resolution is the hook powerup has small hooks showing on sides of harpoon. and once picked up. all harpoon type shots get similar hooks allowing them to 'stick' to surfaces... but my colour theme sucks and didn't really have an idea to represent 'hook' power better... =P

Bump...

Alright more levels.
More up to date tracking of scores and level.

Everything should be working.

Although the collisions seem to work odd at times and slow down or speed up or simply bounce oddly...
I play tested and adjusted what I could and got the best results I could.
The game is quite challenging at times even for me.

There maybe some small graphical bugs. I saw one but it was so quick I wasn't even sure what happened.
the bouncing isn't exactly like PANG but I couldn't exactly recreate it...

Anyway... play tests would be nice.
Feedback on what to do =)

Next game I make I plan to make a beat'em up/adventure type game.
Should have some special effects and moves. =)
And hopefully I can do some simple but good animations to help it stand out.
