Is it possible to make a game into a icon on your desktop. So that you don't need to load GE to load up your game.

Version 1.3.0 will associate GED files to Game Editor Pro.

Perhaps your original question wasn't clear.

1. If you want to make a standalone game that won't need Game Editor Pro installed in order to run it, you have to Export the game to a Windows executable. Then you can move the executable file it created to any folder on your hard drive, if you want, and create a shortcut to that location using Windows Explorer.

2. If you are using 1.3.0, you can now double-click on any GED source file and it will load the Game Editor Pro interface and your game up on the screen.

3. If you want to make an installer for your game so you can distribute it and have others install it and make an icon on your Start Menu or desktop, you need a third-party program such as Advanced Installer, Inno Setup, or Installer/GD.

Hi jj,

You can attach an icon to your game. Then export your game to your desktop. You will see your icon and just need to click it to start the game.

To attach an icon:
1. Create your icon.
2. Select Config from the main GE menu
3. Select Preferences --> Icon File: (Load your previously saved icon file.)

HTHs...
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

By the way, if you're an Adobe Photoshop user, you can download the ICO File Format plug-in.

Surprisingly, Adobe left out the ability to create ICO files in Photoshop. This plug-in allows you to save your graphic as an ICO file, provided it's in the right size and color depth.

Copy the .8BI file to the File Formats folder under Adobe Photoshop.

Thanks for the tip, BeyondTheTech. I just downloaded tons of useless little freewares to make my icons recently.
Now you've made me see the light
Thanks :D

Heh, this is funny. It seems like you are another PC "user" who knows how to run games only if they are on the desktop. Have you ever heared of "My Computer"? You don't have to have an icon to run a game without GE. You just need to EXPORT it as windows executable and than run it as you would any other game/program. If you don't know how to find it in your hard drive, there's no way to tell you how you can make a shortcut to it on your desktop.

Yes I have heard of my computer and yes I know I don't need the program to be an icon on my desktop to run it.

I'm not sure what exactly does he want... but I'm not sure HE knows what he wants ;).

From his post I just figured out that he doesn't know how to create a shorcut on his desktop. Also, he asked how to run a game without GE and I thought that he doesn't know about the EXPORT function.

I'm from Central Europe so maybe his posts seemed a bit vague to me only. Anyway, I apologize for my behavior.

Have a nice day.
