Welcome!
To get a good start, I would recommend downloading the trial version first. You can use it for an unlimited period of time and make very powerful games for windows already.
At first you won't be scripting right away as Game Editor has lots of helpful tools that let you create an awesome world (and more) by just clicking around.
Scripting will more and more come to you as you bring your actors to life and create physics for instance. There are some nice tutorials when you click "help" in the Game Editor menu.
Also, I would recommend taking a look at the Demo sector of the forum. Most of our demos are really helpful and most of the older ones (which dropped down a little in the index) show you very basic, very cool stuff (such as Delta V, Cross Platform game, GE-Rally etc.).
Math really is no problem here, I would recommend having a calculator ready when you do angle stuff though (which isn't our primary concern).

The "Game Art" sector is a great resource for sprites and sound/music (if you don't wanna make all your stuff yourself).

Anyway, enjoy being around here and ttyl.
