I just had a quick go at doing cars using my scaling/rotating method, they are not well detailed yet, but it should be easy only scaled twice in this pic

Perhaps you might like to join the project too, at least in an advisory capacity : ) ? Am waiting for that tut.

I have to confess I can't do ultra violent dialogue or ultra violent story or profanity for GTA. I'm a family-oriented gamemaker. If that's still OK, I'm in. The important thing about GTA, imho, is the gameplay. I can do moderate violence in a story but am always on the side of the good guy/gal vs the evils. In my experience, very few people want to play a really bad guy--they want to be the Hero. So let's try to have a Hero vs. the Sin City bad guys if possible. Or I can't do it. : ) In fact, I think I'd better bow out. GTA violence is not my thing. Sorry. Good luck with your project. You don't really need a story anyway, just a lot of action.

I think Feral's idea of having a GTA without all the objectionable stuff but with great gameplay was a good idea. : )

Interesting points of view you all have. Thanks for the ideas!

I would like to say, first off, that GTA is inherently violent. That's what makes it GTA. You can do ANYTHING in that game, that's what makes it stand out from all the others. A Zombie theme isn't a bad idea, but that just makes it a zombie game. True Crime was a great example; it was like GTA but you played a cop and had to follow the rules, which meant you couldn't do anything. And that made it just another game.

If its not violent, if its not criminal, then its not GTA.

My favorite thing about Vice City was on the PS2 was that I was really fast with the health/armor codes. What this meant is that I got to be an invincible supervillian. And believe it or not....that was the thing i've always wanted most in a video game. Power. Lots of it!

I like the idea of a Sin City scenario, but I have to wonder....the criminals in SinCity ATE people. I don't remember anything in any GTA game that was that bad!!

Am playing GTA1 on the PC and having more fun on the sidewalk than in the street. Your road sprite and the other sprites here are great, Spidy, are you going to make a sidewalk sprite? While I can't write violent power dialogue (DST can do that) : ) I will help with what I can. Here is a sidewalk sprite made from your road sprite recolored and with the stripe moved to the edge. Maybe you or 4erv can make a better one.

As i know sidewalks are grey...
