Oh, and will the new version be compatible with old files?
I was thinking of making a game with small sprites but didn't want to start it if I couldn't apply the sprite scaling afterwards

hopefully a demo of that GE protocol is released soon too, I could make a pixel fighter and challenge you guys to bouts, haha

You must wait just a little bit (unless you want a low-quality / none-functional Multi Player Support and Management - no you don't).
It comes with a second feature people always wanted gE to provide. But what specifically.. is something you'll see in time.

Hey, I've waited over 8 years for multiplayer, don't worry about me being patient, hahaha
And nice teaser, your making me more excited

I'm not sure if I read anywhere yet, but if I start making a game or two here now, is there any special requirements to adapt them to the protocol later?
And if I get any more questions I'll move over to the correct topic, don't want to clutter this thread too much.

All this stuff going on with GE, I haven't been this excited about making games in years, haha

Just make your game and when we release GP & OM you can merge your game inside OM and only specify the multi player behavior.

Are there chances, that it can be identified as GE, when you are ready ?
sky wrote:I'm still going to release 1.4.1 publicly.

That sounds good. Hope, you get everything fixed.
sky wrote:Actually that isn't my problem. A community can have off topic discussions
and still be on topic. My problem with calling the gameEditor forums a game development
community right now is that people are being belittled for developing games. To me at
least, a game development community is a group of people interested in creating games
and supporting each other in that endeavour. The reason I stuck around to work on
gameEditor was that the forums were a great welcoming place for people new to
game programming to learn and share what they made. With a few of the recent topics
and arguments it is pretty clear that that is no longer true.

What I don't understand is, where your disaffection comes from.
For me it looks like if you are referring to that part of Lcls thread you(?) have
deleted recently. Is that true ? But there wasn't whole the community involved !

And how are people here "being belittled for developing games" ?

Sorry, I don't understand anything.

Sure, everything could be better, but we have all, a so called "game
development community" needs, besides its members: Resources, tutorials,
demos and even games.
Especially the last few months were very productive.

Cheers !

We'll just have to change that then :) I'll see what I can do to revive what it used to be. Also sky, sorry about the forums getting this way, I don't post much anymore myself but I do check it out because game-editor still has a hold on my heart :P In fact, I'm actually working on a game currently. (though I tend to have issues finishing things.. lol )

The community becoming corrupt is brought upon by the community, and solely the community.

Do you suppose, all of the posts advertising "a new ge build," and "a new functional 3d api," and every other "hyped" post people create is with no consequence?
People in society have wants. Desires. You create these hype posts, increasing these desires, and then never deliver. Years pass. Some people stay loyal, hoping that you will deliver your product to be as amazing as it is advertised to be. Others can not handle the wait. They will begin to lose faith in the product, and the developer, and go corrupt, turning against the true purpose of this forum, and complaining about how nobody delivers anything.

Perhaps, skyderiegn, the lack of transparency in the development of new ge versions, may have led to this phenomenon? The same applies to LcL, and everyone else that hypes up an idea but fails to deliver.

To fix it?

Deliver. Stop making promises. If you want to post about this new library you're releasing, and not provide frequent status updates with reasonable evidence to prove the product exists and will be released, go open source. Put your source code on a git repository, and commit. Show people that you care about the community, that people have a reason to trust you.

Or maybe not. I might be completely wrong. Maybe I'm just looking at this society wrong; figure it out yourselves.

The only problem I've seen with this community in the years I've been here is this thread complaining about the community, hahaha.
Lets try to move onto more positive and on topic discussions.

I had known GE development and fan support had severely slowed, sure, but I didn't realize things had gotten so bad. I haven't been on the forums more than a couple years, but I've been using GE for seven years and still prefer developing games on this platform more than any other. I have probably brought up the forum 4, 5 times a week for the past several months to see the news on GE development. So, know that you have at least one person cheering you on!

I also am looking forward to the new release, however, I also understand the frustration and lack of motivation. To my knowledge, neither makslane, nor skydereign gets payed for the development of Game-Editor anymore. This can cause a huge lack of motivation, which can ultimately slow down the progress.

That being said though, I am still excited to see it =D

Hey since we're in the mood for these kinds of questions, what exactly happened to akr and makslane? I know they haven't been around for awhile but...
If GE 1.4.1 is released we'll have Scaling! right?

I wouldn't trust that old download from 2013
There probably are real viruses in it, haha
