WIP Nr.2: Disposable Heroes - Back in the front

Talk about making games.

Postby metal_pt » Wed Jul 11, 2007 10:58 pm

Thanks again for the fast reply.
I think I solved the diagonal movement roughness. (thanks to your previous post) :D

I plan to add some more enemies (all kind of vehicles, some bosses, and another kind of soldiers)
And you'll be able to drive some vehicles too.

So far I've got panned some desert and arctic missions too (maybe 5 to 10 missions in each area) which I can only start developing when the game engine is finished.

Well... it's a long way run...

And I also would like to say that I'm honored that a eximious developer like you have wasted your valuable time helping, replying and feedbacking my game.

Thanks

 You must be thinking of someone else... I just make things look good, thats all. All the scripting skills can be attributed to the helpful people here in the forum. Glad to help though.

You're right, we all learn with each other. This guys in the forum are absolutely great.

But that doesn't mean you don't know what you're doing.
I played almost all the demos you have posted here and I must say that you pay a lot of attention to every single detail. There are no flaws.
Your games have very smooth playability, excelent graphics (sorry, didn't pay too much attention to the sound fx and music 'cause my kid is sleeping most of the time). Well... Don't forget to allow the gamers to choose the difficulty level :D

Bottom line: The day you have finished one of your games, I'll be in the line to buy a copy.

Hi metal_pt, I'm back from my voyage. I downloaded the latest version of your game and played it. Now it's much better and I like the way how the graves disappear. It's much more beatifull that way. Also the move control system is much better.

Here is some ideas you could still add (if you want of course)

-Minimap (is switched on/off with 'm' button)
map can be made easily by just zooming out in ged file and taking snapshot

-Option to lay down your soldiers (they move much slower but about 60% of the enemy bullets doesn't damage them)

-Currently the soldiers die from one bullet. You could make a simple health variable that they die from random 1-3 hits for example.

Welcome back tekdino. :)

I specially like the idea of the mini-map.
I would like to do that in a dynamic way (real time).
Are there any ideas in how should I do that?
Regarding the health bar I'm using it in different levels (with a tank and a chopper) but maybe you're right and I should use a health bar in the tiny soldiers too.
And I really love the idea of a prone position and as soon as possible I'll make it happen :D.

Thanks once again :)
(And score up for your bright ideas)

You are welcome! :)

I have one simple idea for the dynamic minimap. Put all the mission objectives and houses etc there as child actors which have both on/off animations. Then when you for example destroy one house with grenade, there is one event that changes the house in the map to off-animation.
More difficult part is the "radar" where you can see where your soldiers are. Maybe it could be done with squares (for example 10x10 invicible squares) and when a soldier collides with one invicible actor it makes the specific square marked. Here is a picture of what I mean.

I like it.. The jitter from the earlier one/hang on collision seems to be gone now. I have noticed one thing, maybe I am just no good, but I tend to get killed by enemies I can't see off screen. Maybe range them where they don't fire from off screen, but I like the pursuit part from off screen. Also noticed sometimes the enemies get stuck against the forest, usually left from start. I think I would buy it for the pocket pc.

For the minimap, maybe a canvas actor would work here with scaled images from main map, check out the demo I made to show dynamic tiling using canvas. The small solve canvas would be something similar.
