Serious area generating problem

Postby Troodon » Sun Nov 25, 2007 11:01 am

Hi everybody. I'm writing in a hurry and very tired so don't wonder if I make weird typos.
I don't know if this is a correct place to ask this but I've got big png map which has many bordered areas. Now I would like to make each of the areas one image. But so that the background size stays the same.
This is because I'm doing a GE project which needs to create each regions in the beginning and the best way to add them without need of x and y variables is to list them in create actor events when the areas are in their place in the bitmap.
Here is the map I'm using.

If I don't find any quicker ways, I must do it with paint.net. For each region:
1. Create new frame
2. Draw borders of the area
3. Fill the area with colour
4. Make the background invicible
5. Save as jpg -> flats the frames together
6. Undo the flatting
7. Delete the new frame
and then again all this for the next region. And again. And again. For all those regions you can see in the map.
As you see, I really need a quicker way.

Regards,
Tekdino

PS: Thanks for reading this!

I think I see what you are saying. I would say load the map into your graphics editor and just erase everything except for 1 area and then save as a new file. Then load the original map again and erase everything but the next area and save as a different new file. This way all of the images would be the same size and when you put them all at the same x and y they should line up to reform the original map.

Yeah, but as you can see from my map, it would take lots of time. And if I let even one extra pixel it ruins my x&y alignment for some weird reason.
I would like to do this but if possible with a quicker way.

Thanks for answering! :D

I can't think of any easy way to do it. This is the type of work that the real game companies let the interns do ;)

Lol, ok. But this will be just the start. After erasing extra areas of ALL this areas, I have to code them all. But I think the coding will be quicker than the graphics. Well, thanks Tufif!
