Command Line Exporting

Ideas for Game Editor evolution.

Command Line Exporting

Postby Kodo » Thu May 17, 2007 3:17 pm

I’d find it useful if I could export a number of Ged files in one go through the use of a batch file, ie.without loading up GE and the different Geds. This would allow me to build new versions of my games and be sure that the exe/dat files are all up to date without manually loading each Ged in turn and exporting it. This would be very useful when creating new installers for updated versions of a game or a game that features many different Geds. It would have saved me loads of time and headache at the end of my last project when I had to do many new builds for our testers.

Just an idea :)

it would be difficult and possibly cause some problems when modify the .dat and .exe files,
it would be easier to just modify the GED files. :D

Right now (10/14/2009) I'm working on some C++ projects, but I might be able to help if you have some Game Editor questions. :)

I'm not talking about editing the GED files at all, just exporting. I would have found it useful on my last released project where there was 1 exe and 3 data files. Sometimes you want to create a new installer, you've just changed and exported one of the files but you can't remember if you've already done them the others, just to be sure you load all of them up in turn and export manually, it'd just save time and create flexability. My next project might well have more data files making fixing bugs and creating new installers even more of a headache, this would be one step to making the process easier.
