GP2X linux handheld control mapping

Postby relaxis » Mon Jul 17, 2006 2:11 pm

The GP2X is a linux based handheld gaming device that is a base for homebrew games, emulators etc.... It runs it's own shell OS and is a light platform for many different types of applications.

I want to use GE to create games for the GP2X and I am pretty sure that the games will run on the handheld because of the cross platform compatability that GE boasts.

What I want to know is if there is a way to map controls to this device using C scripting - bearing in mind that the handheld uses the standard joystick settings - (up down left right - a,b,x,y,start, select) ?

P.S. this wiki might help - http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/SDL_Joystick_mapping

can the controls not be mapped in the script by initialising SDL in C - then mapping the controls?

It should be possible.

The current linux version is compatible with x86 processors, not ARM processors like used in GP2X.

There are plans to make the port.

that sounds wonderful - can you give a time frame?

Would it be worth creating my game NOW so that when the port is done I can just compile it with the right version of GE?

I can't give you a time frame.
I'm talking with the GP2X makers to get some support.

Would it be worth creating my game NOW so that when the port is done I can just compile it with the right version of GE?

It's a better idea wait some time.
When I get a response, I will reply here.

there's no point in talking to the makers of the GP2X, go to the wiki site for the GP2X and talk to the development community. GamePark Holdings don't develop software/ports/emus/games for their products because they develop their handhelds exclusively for homebrew communities.
