boxes around images

i have made a few sprites for my game but they all have black squares around them does anyone know how to get rid of that.

Open the file in paint (if you use windows) and fill the empty space with some color that is not used in the picture. Make sure that the left upper corner is also that color, because ge understands it as transparent color. Save the picture (works best if saved as bitmap).
