paths - basic question

Postby feral » Sat Jun 07, 2008 6:37 am

guys, just playing around with paths

and need to confirm what I think i know as they appear very limited

as near as i can tell

you can get on a path anytime but only at the very beginning
you can get off a path anywhere along the path ??
and once on a path, you cannot speed up or down

Is there anything else you can do with a path ? ie: when drawing a path, it has nodes, can these be read ?

also, if there is nothing else a path can do, I may have to write a path routine myself, already have some ideas on how, but, has this been done ? or furthermore is there any interest in a path with changeable speed and other variables ?

ps: I know DST won't like the idea

answers: yes, yes, yes, no, no, no, yes.

We would all appreciate a good path simulator, I'm sure it can be done with arrays.

A path like many other things in ge, is there to make it simple for simple games and simple programmers.

As we become better programmers, we can program our own things, and have no need for them, I've used paths plenty, and now i rarely ever use them, i simply program timers and loops using absolute xy coordinates.

Btw: i DO like the idea. :P
It's easier to be clever than it is to be kind.
