Two art programes that I think everyone should know about that are not on your list:

1) Promotion by Cosmigo << great for making animated sprites and Background tiles. (I couldn't work comfortably without it)

2) Artweaver << an amazingly high quality program that is FREEWARE! :) Its sort of like a combination between the basic features of Photoshop with some more features to simulate natural media and papertypes very easily.

I started off with paint... :)
it is good for simple drawing and for some complex ones :D
corel is not good at all for editing, but it is the best drawing program :)

I don't anymore use paint so much but all the games I've published are having paint graphics. (Only sumobattle 3 beta has some paintshop stuff)
Even my SINI AI project is about 80% paint graphics.

I like paint, because its relativly simple and can do a lot of basic things. Other than that, I like paintshop, basically because that's what I know how to use most, although other programs may be better. Most of the time, I'm either using paint, or using 3d models, allthough occasionally something needs to be topped up with paintshop. The problem with paint is that it isn't good for drawing big, fancy animations.

I always thought Hell would be a giant load screen that goes on for eternity, then one day, eons later, it would end, only to reveal a slightly different loading screen.

pIXEL ART IT GOOD, i ILIKE IT, bUT, THE gimp IS THE BEST FOR MAKING ALL THINGS "Sorryu, Caps Lock." ANyway, It's good for making all things like, transparrent, at any level, aAnd, you can select from a color, and you can multiply, devide, saturation, and even add, or subtyract, or Grain MErge, or Grain Extract, and all of the other stuff but only on the color you wanted, or you can do it on the whole thing. Oh, Also, You can have transparrent backgrounds already, Saves grief for the eyes. I like the GIMP allot.

Photoshop is a great tool, I use it since 1995 but is very expensive. The Gimp lacks a good interface but it support animation while PS don't. At the end Photoshop may be better than gimp but my vote goes to The Gimp because it's the best compromise between power and costs.
