My Awesome Idea of a Game and My slow "Unprogressing"

Postby Turon » Tue Dec 30, 2014 7:42 pm

I initouly (I don't know how to spell that word Inishilly) had this what I thought to be a stump of a great game... but some gameplay and setting changes meant a complete redo of the Game Engine... I tried to get the State Method thing to work with me but at the moment I'm in a dead end... I said to myself, Once I've finished this awesome tileset then I'll get to the programming.
Only problem, I could never make my tileset look right... and now I don't know...

The Game was supposed to be a Action Adventure Game where you could use a flip mechanic between sidescrolling and topdown perspectives and one would only be able to jump in sidescrolling.
The main character was supposed to be a yellow robotic cat with regenerating fur that concintrates static electricity and uses it to climb up wall and shoot at enemies...
There were supposed to be 2 rivaling villains, one mad roboticist and one mad mutant maniac.

I don't know if this is the best place to post such a Topic but I am discussing game development here so...

Hi Turon, it's great to see you're still around! :)

You game idea sounds great, the idea about flipping between sidescrolling and topdown sounds interesting, it'd be fun to that explore the mechanic in an action adventure game!

If there's something you'd want help for, don't hesitate to ask. There's still people willing to help on the forums, including me. :D I want to encourage you towards realizing this game, the idea sounds good, and as I've seen some of your pixel graphics, I know you could make the game look great! :)

Good luck with the project!

(And by the way, the word you're after is "initially" )

The reason I made this topic was partially to prove I wasn't dead and to perhaps boost the forum activity a bit... behind the scenes lots of GE users are working hard on there games but don't have much to say Game Editor wise... but I take it this forum is about Game Development so it is also a place for GE game developers to discuss game development...

A while back in 2012 (my least active year on the forum) I was actually trying to make a RPG with a Clay Animation graphical style. Nothing came of it though and it just faded away...

Hey, I had a similar idea for pithman many moons ago. I never really implemented it though, and I've abandoned the project since.

The idea was that one could switch layers at a level point, in a top down view.

Here's a diagram -

And a prototype I made back in 2011. Feel free to use any part of it. I don't need it anymore.
(It's pretty limited, and the code is very simple.)

Also, I got to say I looooove claymation and clay style graphics. If you have the means to do it, do it man! It's a little more effort, but totally worth it.

Hey, I remember that one! You sent the prototype to me back then, too :D

Okay my flip mechanic is not quite the same, you have a top down perspective (maybe something similar to Pokemon or Zelda) and there a special "flippable" tiles which can flip into
sidescrolling perspective and vise verse... though very neat though Jagmaster...
