text: letter by letter

Postby S0L1Dfake » Tue Jan 02, 2007 11:56 pm

I have a dumb question;
Is there any easy way to make text appear letter by letter proggressivly? For example you have a character talking on screen and below them is a caption and his text appears sort of as hes saying it instead of all at once. Anyone do this or know how to?

 OOOOOO! OOOOOO! :D :D :D do you mean like when you press the next button it goes to a different text!? Or when the actor is talking it shows the text moving along!? why not just make an animation of the text Moving? *takes a deap breath* :?:

 Well i think it would be better using a mask actor (will use less images and better graphics)

welll, all you do is an animation of a black actor, an the animation would make the black actor scroling out, like doing the opistie of the apearing text ex:

88888888
88888888

next frame

---88888
8888888

next frame

-------8
888888

next frame etc...

well, make the actor the same color as the BG under the text.

Not yet? Not yet? Cant be done? I hear too much of this in the GE forum!

Use a canvas and draw the text letter by letter. Or, use a text actor, and a mask to slowly reveal it. Or modify the text value using a timer. or half a million other ways!

Simply use a timer to copy letters from a string to a text actor. The length of the timer determines the speed of the scrolling.
Why do i always get stuck?
