Finally got a little time to check this project out not too long ago, and was definitely impressed, good job Zivouhr! The only criticisms that I can offer is that the music got a little repetitive after a while (though it is still pretty cool) and that it was also a bit loud. I really enjoy the artwork, looking forward to getting the chance to play more of it and to see what you come up with next :D

Thanks a lot Game Maker Dude! I look forward to your game as well!
In Tomb of Twelve:
-Were you able to find the music notes in the game? It allows you to shut off the music if you want, or pick a new selection.
1. Did the game run at a nice frame rate on your computer? Or did it seem like it's moving in slow motion? If slow mo, do you have a lap top? For some reason, lap tops, from my experience, run the game in slow motion. I don't fully understand why yet, since they could have the same specs as the game running normal. To answer Lcl's earlier question, I have the game set at 90 to 100 fps instead of the default 30. The game should run nearly as fast as the demo does on an ideal computer set up.
2. Thanks, let me know if you have any trouble getting through the game. I'll answer any questions you might have, and to any one else who might be stumped.
I'm curious to hear if anyone eventually unlocks the Ending story and end credits to the Tomb of Twelve Game.

I have a few ideas for a new game in mind that I hope to get started before the end of the year.
I'm considering using non tiled art work on a new game, but have to find out how much more memory that will take up.

The biggest difficulty I have had with making Tomb of Twelve? The Events. For some reason, no matter how many times I tried different approaches and reset the gems while programming the game, there is a random glitch that might be part of Game-Editor, that allows once in a long while, a gem to not be accounted for. So you end up collecting all of the gems, but the one that wasn't activated (through the event lines to the target), doesn't unlock the door as you would expect. For that reason, I had to allow the gems to reappear if you left the Tomb before or after collecting them all, just to compensate for this random glitch. It was frustrating only because the player ends up having to sometimes collect them twice to finally unlock the KEY TOMB DOOR. I think I probably pushed Game Editor to its limit with the way I programmed, so I'll try to fine tune it for the next game.

From what I've played so far this is fairly impressive; I love the background art like the trees and mountains ect, especially how thers a subtle bit of parralax scrolling going on. :)

Thanks James. Yeah, the mountains show off the most parallax scrolling to create a "3D effect" as the player moves.

Does the game play at an enjoyable frame rate on your computer, or does it seem sluggish? Just wondering about it as a developer, so I can plan ahead for future games.

Any difficulties with the game, let me know, thanks!

Kudos for you, giving away your work for free !

But is this the final version, or are you further working on it ?

Playing the game to its end must be a similar effort than developing it !

Sadly, you got hit by an unresolvable paradoxon : Creating a really large world
in a limited amount of time !

All those endless runner/flyer/driver/whatever also have the problem, to fill
large or even infinite worlds with diverse content.

What I've seen so far in your game would nicely fit into a world, consisting
of a surface, 2-3 times as large as the demo surface, with three tombs and
two sky regions, imo. Sometimes, less is more !

And it's not an aesthetical issue I'm complaining about, but more of a practical one.
There are simply not enough remarkable landmarks, to show you, where you are.

Nice to have a choice, to change the music. But how can I disable it ?

Now some quirks I found :

- Don't take the "New game" option as the default mark on the title screen, you
can delete your save-file too easy, accidentally.

- The last mountain layer should scroll a little slower.

- Whenever Bumpus passes a ladder, he automatically changes his animation to the
climbing one. During a jump, it might be of use, but during walking, it looks
a bit strange. Ladder down, Bumpus is just sliding.

- It's hard, to bring Bumpus lying in bed, he prefers, sleeping upright.

- Once, I walked to the far,far west. There I climbed a huge pyramide, and Bumpus
became slower and slower, until he even nearly stands still, ultra slowmotion !
Another time, with the last Bumpus, I suddenly got a "Game over".
Is it intended, that he will become weaker over the time ?

- The progress screen lacks of the labels for all the values.

- How to get the skulls ?

Who knows, what else, that's all I can come up with so far !

Again, nice work, keep on GEing !

Cheers !

Well, the game is complete, though there is room to fine tune it of course. My programming skills are limited, so when there is more time, I have to figure out how to code more efficiently.

Slow Down:
The slow down is a concern of mine for certain computers and operating systems, thanks for mentioning your experience. Bumpus should never normally slow to a crawl. While my computer runs the game always at a solid frame rate as intended (nearly the same speed as the demo version) when the game is the ONLY thing running on my computer, I noticed that on laptops for some reason, the game crawls from the very start even though it has fast processing of 2.5 GHz and 4 GB Ram. Something either about the way it's programmed that can't handle the game's speed all at once with the other items in the game, or possibly an issue with creating such a large game using Game Editor. Much of the game's content would have to be sacrificed to iron it out I'm afraid. The only other thing I can imagine would be other programs on the gamer's computer running at the same time that might be affecting the game's speed. Shutting down all other programs helps a little for that situation. If it runs slow on one computer, try a different computer if possible for a faster, normal, playable frame rate.

Skulls Items:
The skulls can be obtained only in Ghost Form. That is accomplished by getting the TOMB KEYS for all of the Eastern Tombs and middle land tombs. Out west past the blue giant pyramid, those are tombs that unlock the final Tomb in the sky and can be ignored if you want till later. You can obtain the Ghost form to complete the game and collect the skulls by collecting all 12 gems in the first 9 Tombs mentioned, including the blue pyramid Ghost Tomb. Once you unlock the Ghost tomb as the old Guide describes if you find him, Ghost Form becomes available to switch to when you like. Or back to human. The skulls represent the fact that Bumpus is in ghost form, so being a ghost, he can grab the skull symbols of "not being alive". There are 60 to collect, but even I have trouble finding them all.

Also, to give the Ghost more things to do, he can acquire the Paint Jars, which once collected, each one will begin to appear at his home Cabin where the two bugs are located on the ground. (The beetle bugs). That is also the location of the music notes, up the ladder to the right platform of tan rocks. You can shut the music off and just hear crickets and the nature sounds.

Thanks for those other tips as well. While they won't stop the game from being playable, they are little things that would be more intuitive, along with Lcl's suggestions as well, for the game experience overall. It does boil down to my limited programming skills and lack of free time.

For that reason, I decided to offer this game for free, since it's not ironed out completely and I'm thankfully beginning to get feedback on the experience thanks to all of you. Thank you! 8)

I played your game and here's a few things

- first i can't "continue game" it acts the same as "start new game", progress reset to 0/0 that's why i can't progress
any further, although i found an elephant?
- as for the speed it's fine like the demo was.. laptop win7 btw
- there is no need to make bumpus dies 60 times per sec because the sound get's extremely annoying
and yeah sorry about that picture, i have no idea why it's still stuck in there :?

Thanks. Yeah, for some reason, that funny picture of Bumpus floating in his sitting pose remains. No big deal.

Thanks DjVan. Very glad to hear the game speed works well so far on your computer, as intended.
Bumpus dies 60 times per second? I didn't want to make the game that tough. Hopefully with practice, dying becomes a rarity. 8)

Just in case, for the save file, once you make progress and earn some gems, hit a warp door to save the game. It will create a separate save file that must be in the same folder or space on your computer as the game file itself. To continue from the start screen, for the time being, hold down for the arrow key, and then hit the space by while still holding down. That will bring up your saved file. Not sure why it wouldn't work otherwise, but thanks for the heads up.

Tomb of Twelve is great game! :D
I like its look and sounds and overall experience is great. You can go underground, in the sky, everywhere, which adds to game's diversity. There are a lot of animals and all kinds of dangers. Game is not too hard, but it is not easy, either. It is a challenge, but not that kind of challenge which makes you quit after few minutes. Actually, this is that kind of game you don't find boring, it doesn't repeat itself, it has interesting story. All of that make you play it more. Old wise men are nice idea.
Controls are simple and the response is good.
Why this game is not in Game Demos, so people on GE site can see it? Why it isn't in Showcase?

Thanks Koala! Glad you enjoyed the game. It's a large game at over 90 MB, so I opted to put it on those indie game sites.
It takes me about 4 hours to complete it from start to finish, but having programmed it, I know exactly where the enemies are and how to get past each danger, so it's an unfair advantage. I'd estimate a normal game by a new player could last 6 to 8+ hours to complete depending on the player.
The toughest boards for me are the fire tomb, with the lava and all of the fire enemies and the shooting arrows. And then the final secret tomb out west after collecting the western keys (with the ghost form and human form), where you have to get everything in one try or get booted back to the outside. That was tough too.

Looking back, I would have made things more obvious with extra tips in addition to what the old guide offers in the game.
