I think it has a video card. I'm not sure about sound though :)

May I join?
I really like the idea since I love handheld game so much.
But I have some questions here:
1. Why do you use disc?I think SD card is way better... since it needs less battery consumption. It's handheld, battery life is the most precious one.
2. Is this going to be like making GP2X cheap version?
3. Which export version you plan to run? windows exe or linux exe?
4. Concerning Winter Blast Remax, I don't think it will run smoothly on single core 200 MHz and 64 MB of RAM. I ran it on dual core 1.8GHz processor it filled the CPU for 50%-70%, and ate 36 MB of RAM in the first run. But the more you play it the more it grow. And eventually pass 64 MB.
I guess the safest spec is about 512 MHz processor and 128 MB RAM. Considering how hardcore nowadays games are... :)
5. What's the screen resolution of the device?

yeah you can join :D ok now to answer your questions
1. we could use a sd card but i think i wasnt clear on what i meant i meant a game without save but since a lot of games have a save feature we could use sd card :D

2. yeah somewhat like a gp2x

3. well since the os is a linux type thing we should use the linux.exe but if a problem we could use WINE with the windows.exe :)

4. Well... i didn't mean that game specifically i was using it in example

5. i don't know i still need to do a lot of reasearch and i still need a desoldering bulb and alligator clips i might have to start in the summer... :( but i am still determined :D

And for game files, why don't we just use the .ged? I think that would be the best method :P

I also just took it as example, concerning how hardcore 2D games nowadays are it would be better to up the specification.

But wait, if you use mini itx motherboard and PSOne LCD they cost about $80. Add the battery, case, wires, and any other stuff...I presume it would be around $110.
GP2X Caanoo is sold for $119 now...

Why use a ps1 screen? Wouldn't a more modern one be smaller and better quality? (Well, then again, the ps1 screen would be cheaper) :P

Well
That is a great Idea i like it
but a few things
it is best to add a OS to it even if it is to load GE to ram it is better this way
and make it do more things other than play games
like Listen to Songs and play Movies
let the things on this system to be endless make it a Open System where more than one things can be done on it
Use SD cards cuz CDs are not to be made for mobile things
make it so that it can be more that one system can be able to play the same thing
am thinking a small Pan network or a simple IR network to allow Multiplayer

I must object to that. First of all, I don't know if there's any way to fit a movie on an SD card. But, more importantly, isn't this supposed to be a system that draws forth that good ol' retro feel without adding in all that modern cr*p? Plus, adding that functionality would take much more programming :)

Agreed :P

As far as I know, Ge is not capable of networking unless that could be built into the system :)

Well it is how you look at it

even movies
