Gelman! (Demo 2!) - Source codes released!

Postby pyrometal » Fri Mar 21, 2008 4:30 am

Hey everyone! GELMAN! IS BACK IN THE WORKS!!! And so far, it looks amazing! Please take a look! Seriously. I've dedicated a lot of effort to bring the game mechanics into a coherent whole, so I hope this pleases you. You should also know that I will NOT release any .ged files of this game to the public, stealing is inappropriate for such a big project and MUST be avoided. Anyway, you should read the following before downloading the demo.

Gelman will speak to you! You'll notice that he'll say that he has only a jumping and shooting move... Well, that's not true for this demo, but it will be later in fuller releases. All moves will be unlocked as the game progresses. For now, all his moves are available to play with because I wanted to make the most of this demo.

Here are his moves!

-"c" to shoot gel balls (can be aimed with arrow keys)
-"x" to jump
-"hold x" to bounce
-"hold c" to charge a super-gel ball then either
-> release c on land to shoot the super gel ball
-> release c in midair to create and explosion
-> release c in cube gel mode to create and explosion
-"c" in midair to release a gel bomb
-"down" to morph into cube gel mode (floats in water, no water in this demo!)
-"down" in cube gel mode to morph into solid gel
-"up" in cube gel mode to go back to normal
-"down" in midair to morph into crush gel (digs in broken blocks)
-"x" in cube mode to morph into rocket gel
-"hold up" in midair to stick to ceilings
-"hold direction against a wall" to stick to this wall
-combine the last two to move along ceilings and walls

I think that was everything! Oh yeah!! Almost forgot to tell you, the 3 bars beside Gelman's picture are used to fill temporary gel powerups. They are based on RGB! If you can manage to fill an entire gauge, you can press "z" to release the power-up! Gelman will become the color of the powerup! The basic power-ups are Red Gel, Green Gel, and Blue Gel! You can even combine powerups!!! If two gauges are filled you will turn Gelman to the equivalent color of both colors mixed! These double power-ups are Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta(hey, can't fake the name of the color can I?)! As you may have guessed already, you can also get the triple power-up! That basically spells "DOOM" for all enemies in the area, nothing will survive! All the power-ups augment your weapons capabilities if I hadn't mentioned it already, and they only last a limited time. I don't think many people will witness the awesomness of these since it would take forever to fill up the gauges... sorry about that, I'll give you the chance to see it in another release.

Before I put the game in this post, I'll show a few pictures:

You should know that there is nothing to do after you talked with "Pyro" (not me). I will continue the story soon!

Also you noticed that my text writes itself like a typewriter, that was fairly hard to make, but I can help you guys if you're interested!

-----EDIT-----
Since I'm no longer going to work on Gelman, I am posting the source code. Enjoy and learn from this!

Awww man.... It looks like your screen doesn't support the resolution my game uses... what should we do??? A lot of code would have to be altered if ever I was to change the resolution... I don't know what to tell you, I'm sorry...

to diormeh: I'll do that a little later but be warned, it's fairly complex... Also, you can make the text go faster by pressing keys while the text is writting! Did you mean that you want something faster???

Here's a windowed version, this should logically work now.

Ha ha thanks! But there isn't much to play, it'll take less than 3 minutes to see everything. This demo was really to test the game mechanics and text functions, so there isn't much of a word to visit yet. Also, I didn't plan anything aheaded! just going along with what I think I should be doing next! I'm glad your enjoying it!

This only the beginning! This game is going to be an enormous world once its done. Also, there won't be any specific levels, it'll be a giant world to explore and do things in, kinda like Castlevania or Metroid games. It'll take a while, but its really fun and worth doing! Thank you very much for the comments Makslane!
