You need Game Editor to open ged files or Export your games to execute in any machine without Game Editor.

Hi Micro,

The way that I understand it, is that the .ged is a GameEditor file. It is generated by GE so it is specific to GE. You can only use it with GE. It is like the extensions that are used by other programs. For example, there is a program called VisualCe that makes PPC databases. Its native extension is .vce. The program recognizes the .vce extension and loads the program that a user is working on. This is true of most programs. Unless they have a format that is built into other programs and recognized by them, you can't open the file in another program.

I suppose that there could be some wierd disassembler around that might read a GE exported .dat file, but my question to you is: "Why do you need to do this if you can already manipulate the files while working within GE?

Just curious--> as usual... :wink:

OK Micro. Now I understand what you want to do! :shock:

In order to let others play your game, you create your game in GE. After you finish your game, you select File--> Export on the GE menu. An "Export Game" box will popup. Now, select the .ged file that you want to export. Next, select the "Export Type" from the drop down box. Select the platform that your game will be played on (Windows, PocketPC,or Linux). Now select the "Export" button. Your game will be compiled to an .exe,cab,etc file that can be played by your friends on their computers. All you need to do is give them the file that was created.

HTHs...

Yes. I think I understand. You need to export your game to a different folder than where you have your .ged file stored. Left mouse click the "select" button and select a different place to put your exported file.

Good Luck...
