A new console has been announced, called the Ouya. It is based on the Android OS, and is made to be completely open and hackable.

This sort of console is perfect for people who know how to program, hack, etc. But I can imagine it would be less attractive to people who have limited knowledge in programming.

That's where GE comes in.

Since an Android port is already in development, I think it would be a great idea to also include Ouya support. Then GE could be marketed toward people with limited programming knowledge who want to make games for the Ouya. This could greatly increase the market for GE, as well as attracti more people to work on the source code, and hopefully perfect GE.

What are your thoughts on this?

hmm i say it's interesting, definetly something to look into. although i do wonder about the multiplayer aspect, because of the openness of it people could easily cheat although it wouldnt hurt us for now as we dont have multiplayer yet... still i can only wonder if there will be a way to prevent this :P also im typing on a psp so if my stuff looks odd thats why.

Yeah, online hackers will definitely be an issue with this console. However, although I hope GE gains online multiplayer someday, it's mainly used for single player games, so we won't have that issue right away.
Besides, I think the console really isn't marketed toward the average gamer, who would have the most issues with the hackers in multiplayer. I think it's more marketed toward people who want to create their own stuff. I think GE could broaden that market by allowing people with limited programming knowledge to get in on that, and therefore broaden its own market.

well im hoping a port for this comes out cause either way it would be good news for us!

but this is just my thoughts but online games normally store there info on a server and use a client to retrieve these packets of info and you as the gamer can't intercept these packets without a packet sniffer which from what i know is illegal to posess, anyways this console would need some servers for users to store info on which in that case i imagine they wouldn't wan't just anyone to hack there servers or network so in the end the actual info that could be hacked would be hidden from the general users of the product..

cause i thought about it if everything as in absolutely everything about this thing was open or hackable how would anyone be able to sell anything on it people could easily get anything free if it was completely open so there has to be some aspects of it closed im sure..

idk if any of this is the case just my own speculations..
