I am running the latest eval version and trying to load the "Demo Making oF" folder demos and I cannot load them since the file format are in gedt and not ged which the load function only recognizes.

How or where do I get a Space Invaders or Space Invaders type of demo to load so that I can at least see some of the code I am interested in?

I think what you are doing is trying to load the files from the File menu and I think what you are trying to load is a tutorial/demo file. To run it, open GE, goto the Help menu. Click "Demo Making of", click Space Invaders. This will run GE in a movie type mode that will walk you through a tutorial.

Thanks but then how do i see the actual code though?
I am not really interested in playing the game but extracting some useful code to get started with my own unique game.

The main problem with the video is its too fast to duplicate on the fly. I lack the patience to take 7 days to duplicate what's in the video.

If you sit through to the end of the tutorial you can then look through the code.

Heres the ged version of space invaders

another way is just to move your mouse during the turtorial and it will ask u if u want to stop right there, or go on. if u stop it, you'll see everything that has been done till to that point. (but not the complete file, i think)
