Pricing...A little steep??

I can remember when GE first came out it was free. Then you had to pay for it (i dunno how much) but now $200!? Why?? Game Maker reg keys cost $18 , Multimedia Fusion only costs $100 and has more features than GE (except for the multi platform versions of software you create...)

So why is the price so high and would Makslane ever consider dropping the price so people like me can afford it?

I agree

I agree, the pricing is too costly. I'm about to buy some engines and get interested with GE. After surfing around I found many engines there. Torque, 3Impact, darkbasic only costs around $100 and they have physics engine too. GameMaker is good too and cheap but powerful!

I now think 3 times to buy GE ??

Exactly

hi,

I would say 40 euros. This is what i would pay because of the following reasons:

1. There is already a free avaible Microsoft eMbedded Visual Tools. Which people can develop 2d or 3d games with it for any handheld they like.

2. It is a 2D engine.

The fact that Embedded Visual Tools is not easy to learn is there. And i am going to try game editor today.

3. Jamagic. http://www.clickteam.com it supports the pc platform and the pocket pc. plus you can create 3D games with it and apps.

I dont want to destroy game editor. Because it seems as a very very good idea. But 199 is as what other say. indeed alot of money. and 40 sounds in my opinion enough for the developer.

Ofcourse you can see it at the following:

*rational tought*

Why would i want to buy a 199 dollars game editor. when i can get a same program, more powerfuller for free?

Do the math.

just my 2 cents. and i really hope to see the game engine getting improved.

thanx

I feel that you have to make money on this software, so peeps out there that want the pro version for free, should really think again. However I would be willing to pay no more then $100 Canadian.

I also think this program is neat, if it had a 3d engine or routine, then I would pay $200 Canadian.

I like the cross-platform , and I can't wait till I can export games in linux.

When GE was free, I looked at it seriously for game development. When I saw the $50 price tag, I thought maybe that was too much - after all, what does it offer over Game Maker (http://www.gamemaker.nl) except for cross-platform support? Not to be rude or anything, but there is absolutely no way I could consider paying $200 for this, and many people are too cheap to pay $18 for GM!

Another suggestion - the demo appears to be both time- and feature-limited. I would suggest changing it to feature-limited only, so that more people would be prepared to try it.

How would you guys feel about a compile-disabled demo?

You can program your game, and then, if you are serious enough to make some money from it you can pay for the editor/compiler.

Yes yes
Everyone is right
but :
I think that Makslane could make it avaible in Romania too (in Europe near the Black Sea) and make the price four each country because I can't aford it.
I will give a maximum off 15 dollars because in my country it means 20 times more than in America or in other countries

Maybe the price is a bit high, but fortunately we have 30 days to value if this tool worths $199 or we prefer the cheaper Game Maker 6.

I admit $199 is a bit heavy for 2D only. The export for PocketPC and Linux is a plus though. The price is probably out of reach for a lot of younger folk who are students (not me :) ). So perhaps there should be student pricing and/or that has the export disabled and a demo that doesn't expire or a bit more time on the demo. Or as you move on to more features leave the old version as a light alternative for lesser cost and the pro having the newer features and full price. Some thoughts :)

I have a lot of software I'd like to upgrade, so that is competing for my $$$ right now as well.

Nice product, and I am interested in Game Editor. Best wishes for GE's success.

$199 is a lot of money. Recently I have purchased Multimedia Fusion at $79 and I am very happy with this product. I would like to buy Game Editor too because I like his C Scripting style, but I prefer to wait two or three months and look if it is cheaper at that time.

I think $199 for multi-platform is reasonable, even it is just 2D. If it is a 3D multi-platform engine, it should cost much more.

I think it is reasonable because:

1. Most 2D game language doesn't come with any tile editor, most freeware tile editor don't have path editing.

2. GameMaker never has multi-platform suppot, the author confirm me, and I found the games make by GM suffer heavy tearing in scrolling background.

I just want the trial period longer, e.g. 90 days. So I can try how good the software and multi-platform support.
