Strategy games is the best game genre I know. Flight simulations (like Orbiter) are also good!

Big fan of the Sneak-'em-up here: Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, the Hitman series (fabulous stuff, I'd pay through the nose for that engine), and the first Tenchu game. Tenchu got silly after that. What self-respecting Ninja goes around introducing himself to his targets, and telling them where he lives?
I also draw the line at Rockstar's Manhunt. I was reviewing that game for a Playstation magazine when it came out and had to play it to completion. I'd really, really rather not have. Gameplay wasn't great, but the concept? Very very wrong.
2D games, another tick for strategy. Civilization 2, X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Settlers, Colonization.

Er sports and driving
I don't have an option to select

My favourite adventure game was a text-based Spectrum game called "Kentilla". "Kentilla" was the name of your sword, and if you lost it, you just had to say its name - "Kentilla!" - and it would reappear in your hand.
First thing I did whenever I met someone in that game was: "give Kentilla beggar"; "give Kentilla orc"; "give Kentilla God-King-Emperor".
They were always so grateful to be given such a beautiful sword that they'd heap me full of information/not kill me/give me their daughter's hand in marriage. Then, I'd give them a little wave, bye-for-now, see-you-soon, saunter out of sight, mutter "Kentilla!", and run away with me sword.
This continues to make me giggle to this day, and we're talking about twenty years ago! Great concept, if slightly morally questionable.

Not as such, it was a text based adventure. But if you met them again, they'd be mad at you. i found you could get around this by giving them your sword...
"For me? You shouldn't have... I forgive you!"
Then you wander off out of sight... "Kentilla!"
Fabulous stuff. I'm easily amused.

That's a link to an applet of "Kentilla". I should like to point out that this game came out in 1984... so it's 22 years old. And very dated. Very very dated. I guarantee you'll be disappointed.
But if you were there first time round, I swear, it was, cutting-edge gameplay!
I'm going to go hide in a corner now - I'm showing my age...
Btw, I thin the command to get the sword back is "SAY KENTILLA".
