Haven't been here in a while, and I won't even be sticking aroun that much, because I'm seriously developing a game for a competition, and it's consuming all my time. But since you sent me a PM I looked at it anyway...
It's not bad, but it isn't difficult, it didn't take me much to beat it. I held space down, and went through without any real difficulties, since the enemies all died as I went through. I did realize that at the right angle they were still deadly, but it didn't make it significantly more difficult. I'd suggest making some kind of a time limit for the attack to work. Or maybe a no repeat on the event, to make it test your reflexes... And yes, animating the sprites would help the overall picture also

But it can serve as a core for a good game, it just needs further development, maybe levels, etc...
