HAPPY MARCH!
You see the title of this thread. This is the first 2 month long tournament I am hosting and the theme of this tournament is story. This will be our 3rd tournament of the year, and I hope to see many contestants join in, most hopeful for 4/more as that would give us the chance for an award ceremony. Next month, in April, an anniversary tournament will be going on, that has nothing to do with this one, so don't mix them up as the April anniversary tournament will only be 1 month long and have the theme of the anniversary.
Stories are a big part of gaming today, and I hope that you guys build up games with stories that inspire you, and bring life to your game, so you have more of an urge to finish and franchise it. I just wanted to remind you though, while story is important, don't forget the other things, graphics, music, originality, creativity, and most of all, game-play, as that will set my overall tone towards the game. Games aren't movies or books, they are for you to interact with and have fun by interacting. This tournament's rubric will feature story as a grading element, but be warned that every grading element this month will be intertwined with story, so if you have a sucky story, you will lose more than just the points in that section, and if you have none to very little to where we know you just threw one in there, you will be disqualified. Also, I am amping up game-play a bit, as I feel it deserves the most look at besides overall, so now it is x/15.
Now here is the grading rubric:
Theme- x/10- how well does it follow the theme of this tournament? If the theme total is less than an average of five points, you are disqualified.
Originality- x/10- Is this a new game, or is the same one that we always play and see?
Creativity- x/10- Do they use the elements in this game to enhance game-play?
Title- x/10- If you saw the title of this game, would it make you want to read the back? Does it reflect the game? Does it reflect the theme?
effect of the quantity of sound- x/5- Do they fit in with the graphics, story, and overall, sound good?
effect of the quantity of music- x/5- Do they fit in with theme, story, action, and overall, make the tempo of the game?
graphics- x/10- Do they appeal to you, do they fit in with the theme, are they a good fit to the story?
game-play- x/15- Is this something with replay value, is it addicting, is it something that is was worth playing?
story- x/10- is this something that people will look forward to, not get annoyed by, and most of all, leave a lasting mark on the game?
overall- x/20- How do you feel about this game as a whole?
Judge Total- x/105- The judge grading this must add up the above total to get one grand Judge Total.
Judge Bonus- x/10- Pi (The bonus must enhance the game, if you just put it in, but it adds no value to the overall feeling towards the game, then the bonus will not count).
Master Judge Rubric:
Master Total- x/105j- j=number of judges- Master Judge adds up all of Judges' score to get one grand master total.
Master Bonus- x/10j- j=number of judges- Master Judge adds up all of Judges' score to get one grand master bonus total.
The deadline is at the end of the 21st of April in Central Standard Time.
If you want to be a judge, say so on this topic, or pm me, or if you see me on chat, you can tell me on there. Judges, do not release scores at all and do not judge until judge week.
Have fun and get started!
