I have utterly no idea what motion compensation is. Can anyone explain it to me, and it's positives and negatives? thanks :)

I don't use motion compensation, but it is supposed to adjust movement speed, if the game is lagging. So they will appear to move the same speed, even if the game is laggy. One problem with using it is that all of your moving must be done in the same type. I am not sure if it will even compensate your xvelocity changes, but maybe. I haven't made anything that lags yet, so I haven't needed to actually use it, but that is what it is supposed to do. Overall, I don't think many games would require this, as even if it were lagging, if some actors remain at the normal speed, the entire game is still laggy...

-Edit
The Motion compensation option is specifically for portable devices. This adds logic to the application so that as a person playing your game moves the motion of the device screen is taken into account. Turning this option on though will increase processing time slightly. Again it’s a setting that will be turned on or off depending on the type of game your creating.
