Greetings humans! I am here to invite anyone who is interested to take part in a recreation of the original Zelda game on the NES in GE!

I started it out, but there's so much more to be done. I think this is a good way to learn game making in general, so rather than work on it in secret, i've decide to post it for anyone to join!

Zelda was the game that, for many of us old people, marked the difference between the limited capabilities of the old game systems vs. the new; things like score, upgrading, and subscreen...those made all the difference.

Zelda rules! So here's the ged file and the graphics, anyone who wants to, download it, play with it. You can easily find more zelda sprites on the web, so feel free to continue the game and upload your version. I will periodically integrate the versions and post a new version for all to download!

Two differences you may notice in this version: the screen is not the same size. The NES res is 256x240, but that is not very compatible for many people, so i've made this 320 x 240. This means slight differences for sprite arrangements, (which will probably be a lot more noticeable once dungeons are added).

Another difference is that link can walk diagonally, which he couldn't before. However, i'm not worried about that as it doesn't detract from the gameplay and there is no real reason to hammer on that feature. In other words, i don't want to 'work at limiting' link.

Use arrow keys to move, spacebar to attack (once you have the sword).

Pretty cool! This game gives you that "adventure" feeling.

I have some suggestions (whether they are good or not, it's up to you...). You know the trees that are situated throughout the level? It can take a looong time to draw out every single individual tile. So why don't you just put a group of these trees into one larger image? That way, you could draw out the trees in bulk when you need to.

It's just a suggestion... but I do that kind of thing in my games. It sure save A LOT of time! (Not to mention it would probably put less strain on computer memory.)

This is a cool idea. I exported it for my GP2X. A little sloooow. Takes some cycles. Gonna need some tweaks.

Thanks for starting this project, DST.
