The Art of Game Design: A book of lenses
I just finished reading this, and it was a very good read. Highly recommended.
In it, Jesse Schell explains the elements of a good game experiences through what he calls "lenses" -that is questions you can ask yourself about your designs in order to improve them. As a supplement, you can download the "Deck of lenses" as a free app, or purchase as a deck of physical cards, to use and review all the lenses that are covered in the book.

The program I use for pixel animations, and I like a lot, is not in your list (...yet) . It is called Graphics Gale, and can be found here:
