I made a perfect moving lava thing with that. It has 24 frames, and it looks like lava. It's moving upward. You can also make water this way. Iy's really cool.

Photoshop supposrt Animation, its jsut hard to use it, you need Image ready.

Photoshop don't support animation, you need switching to ImageReady, and, anyway, it simply use each image level as it was a frame, so, it's not so useful in my experience. Moreover, for what I know, it export animation in animgif format only, so, if you wish to make truecolor animation this is a serious limit. I heard that real animation support will come with next PS version, let's see.

It will also export to flash and individual image files in addition to anim-gifs
(I'm using the CS version, CS2 may support more?)

I actually find ImageReady really easy to use, especially having used Photoshop for a good many years.

Having said that, I will be looking for some image editing software for my home PC soon and GIMP sounds ideal, especially if the photoshop style interface works well.

well, i agree, sometimes, its a pain working whit all those layers and stuff.
But, i never used gimp for doing animations
