I prefer .wav

But I don't really understand your question.

Ok are you asking for sound files or audio converters to convert music into ogg. files for games.

I use SFXR sound creator. It can create you good retro sounds for your games. I also use http://www.findsounds.com to find some good sound effects.

I hope this helps. ;)

For music I use Open Modplug Tracker
For sounds I also use Open Modplug Tracker :)
I've been with the program for almost as long I've been with GE!
What I like about it, you can create better quality tracks than midi and still have a 100kB song with neat sound :D since it's a tracker you can save in modules like IT, MOD, S3M, XM, etc.
And since it's a tracker... you can easily make weird sounds with it and make sound effects :D

One thing to note is to export with "Compatibility Export..." when working with an IT file. Since OMPT offers special effects that are not compatible outside of the program anymore.
I don't think GE's module system has been updated for years compared to OMPT being updated often. But I'll agree the use of modules never were popular with GE community o:

Here is a program I found from another engine I was checking out.

Kind of cheesy NES effects. But I really dig it.

Here is a flash version that I have not tried yet.

Hi! Johan Brodd here. 20 years computer music composition experience. I use FL Studio mostly for composing music though, but sometimes I feel it needs some extra feeling, I've therefor put together a list of useful retro music tools for anyone to read at my blog. Some are cross platform, but not all unfortunately, I hope this helps you guys out.

Not from those oldskool trackers unfortunately no, but I got my music on Itunes, Amazon, Spotify, and other online stores. Just search for "Johan Brodd", and you'll find the tracks there. I'm also on soundcloud which has a lot of my tracks there. :)

what is the best way to utilize sound? i am thinking of using a tracker to create my music. from what i understand this is the best way to use less space for music, so that i can have more music for the overall game without sacrificing playability/ fps/ speed. basically, my game is going to have a very large and complex soundtrack so i would like to be able to do that while still being able to handle everything else going on within the game.
