THE LAST MONTHLY TOURNAMENT: 2014 February Tournament
Posted: Sat Feb 01, 2014 2:30 pm
Guys, we have had plenty of monthly tournaments since I started this in April of 2012, but I have decided that one month is just not enough to make a game, but for schedule reasoning, I am having one more. Actually that is a lie because in April, I will have a monthly tournament, but that is just for the anniversary of these tournaments, and that will be the only ones now. I thank all who have participated, but after this month, our tournaments will be 2 months long, giving you more time.
As for this month, the month of February will have the theme of rotation. Don't ask me what type, for that is up to you decide, let the gears in your head rotate on this one please. As always, the only rule is that all, but the master judge can enter, unless only two games are submitted, then if an intended judge entered, they can't be a judge either. In the case a judge enters, and at least 3 games enter, then the master judge will use percentages to decide the winner. If, 4 or more enter, then we will have a judge week from the 22nd-26th, and have an award ceremony on the 28th and 29th.
The grading rubric is slightly changed from previous month's entries, as lcl's game from last month showed me a flaw in the rubric. Instead of music and sound, the rubric will have the effect of the quantity of music, and the effect of the quantity of sound. That means you could have no music or sound and still get 5 points for both, if I feel it fits the game more appropriately then having some would.
Now here is the grading rubric:
Theme- x/10- how well does it follow the theme of this tournament? If the theme total is less than an average of five points, you are disqualified.
Originality- x/10- Is this a new game, or is the same one that we always play and see?
Creativity- x/10- Do they use the elements in this game to enhance game-play?
Title- x/10- If you saw the title of this game, would it make you want to read the back?
effect of the quantity of sound- x/5- Do they fit in with the graphics, story, and overall, sound good?
effect of the quantity of music- x/5- Do they fit in with theme, story, action, and overall, make the tempo of the game?
graphics- x/10- Do they appeal to you, do they fit in with the theme, are they a good fit to the story?
game-play- x/10- Is this something with replay value, is it addicting, is it something that is was worth playing?
overall- x/20- How do you feel about this game as a whole?
Judge Total- x/90- The judge grading this must add up the above total to get one grand Judge Total.
Judge Bonus- x/10- MYSTERY UNTIL I THINK OF ONE! (The bonus must enhance the game, if you just put it in, but it adds no value to the overall feeling towards the game, then the bonus will not count).
Master Judge Rubric:
Master Total- x/90j- j=number of judges- Master Judge adds up all of Judges' score to get one grand master total.
Master Bonus- x/10j- j=number of judges- Master Judge adds up all of Judges' score to get one grand master bonus total.
The deadline is at the end of the 21st of February in Central Standard Time.
If you want to be a judge, say so on this topic, or pm me, or if you see me on chat, you can tell me on there. Judges, do not release scores at all and do not judge until judge week.
Have fun and get started!
