GE source code question

In the game editor source code, how would I navigate to the gui graphics? Are they embedded in one of the C scripts?

Some graphics, like pacman icon, are in the editor.dat file. Other are just files.
The interface (button, lists, ...) are drawn at pixel level.

The .dat file is encrypted? I'd like to go in and spruce up all the graphics.

No. The fine is not encrypted. What you want to do?

It's not? Oh, It may just look like it is to me, it says "Kyra 2.0.4" and then a bunch of symbols with the occasional .bmp here or there.

But, i'm a graphic designer, and I wanted to give you guys a better splash screen. The "Powered by Game Editor" splash is fairly bland and un-appealing, resulting in the players not respecting the game, and the time put into making it.

Actually, the GE splash screen is a lot like the Unity splash screen (a proffesional 3d game engine). In fact, the only real difference is that the Unity logo is more smooth :)

Which is a pretty major point. And as there has been much concern raised about this, it'd probably be a good thing to address. Do you have any sample logos that you might use?

I don't have any sample logo's, simply because i'm not going to make it, and then have you guys not use it.

I have some examples on my site, it's still in the building process;
http://imaginationdworkshop.weebly.com/completed-logos.html

The entire background(animation also), all logo's, even the sprites and navigation(Every graphic on the site) were done from scratch by me.(besides a few fonts, and maybe the random image or so the requester wanted in it.)

...and that's just the beginning. Pretty good for a teenager, eh?

But really guys, your forums and base would grow just by fixing the splash screen. Been there, done that. You guys are dying, and i'm offering some assistance.

Yeah, that's the major concern. A considerable number of users have recommended that it should be changed, and came up with quite a few alternatives, but makslane doesn't feel the change is required. Not sure if that will ever change. And indeed, those are pretty good.

I've got multiple points on this. Say you see the game editor logo(a pacman, lol) and a logo that's "smoother" so you say.

One says "Game Editor." and the other says, "Unity3D". A thousand to seven would click the 3D every time. The seven that clicked game editor, three of them will leave because of the C coding needed, one would lurk in the forums and ask stupid questions, and one would get frustrated and dump it. The other two would become decent members of the community.

Not trying to be negative here, just expressing my opinions. Just want Mak to know it's to help "evolve" GE like he wants, graphics are a major part of evolving.

but makslane doesn't feel the change is required.

If you've got 22714 members, and only 15-20 are active, you've got problems. Something needs done to bring people back.

While I agree with you as many of us do about the importance of a new logo, I do believe we aren't shrinking. It's just gE has never been a very popular choice. That and there aren't enough games out there for people to even see the splash screen. There are no more than 15 or so apps, with several of them no longer up, and assuming the usual success of the game, that's very few people who do see it. But that logo does very little for us. Anyway it isn't really a democratic vote, the only decision that counts is that of makslane, and we haven't been able to convince him that it would be worthwhile to be changed.

Well, I guess you do have a point. But if I you don't mind me saying, I had no problem with the GE logo when I first started using it. But I can see why other people don't like it :P

I can understand that. Just wanted to say my 2 cents.

But i'll be around if Mak decides it's needed.

Well, even full removal of a default splash screen in general would be nice, because you can make your own in-game easily(With unlimited options on how to do it).

If it was removed completely,(Instead of sending all the files in to Mak) I would gladly buy the creator. Sending in files is just to much of a hassle. XD
