I didn't get 3 things:
1. Will GE become free?
2. Do you mean the interface will be independent of GE?
3. Will ANY binary have an adverticement of GE in it?

I've been going through a happy period now.
Now I don't know what to call the period, this is too good to be true!
I've been waiting for this to happen!

I don't know yet. The future directions will depends of how successful will be the development of the new interface.
2. Do you mean the interface will be independent of GE?
Yes. An IDE can be done derived from the GE interface.
3. Will ANY binary have an adverticement of GE in it?
Derived projects must show the words "Made with Game Editor" or "Derived of Game Editor" and must show a link to game-editor.com
I think the games generated with Game Editor must show this too, if the whole Game Editor becomes free in the future.

So what's the purpose of having it then? I mean I got GE pro ONLY to get rid of "Made with Game Editor" line in the screen (that version had PPC support as a demo), otherwise I don't see a point of using it at all. It's imposible to make a professional-looking game with that. Like I can barely imaging one selling game with any advertisement. I like the current system more. You pay - you get a great game making instrument, else you stay with a "toy" for yourself. So that was my suggesion.
btw it's a little hard to understand your first post. So, GE stays the same product, but can be used with the new interface, but can work with old one too. Interface can be used both with GE and C++ delivering the same abilities for a developper. Am I right? Then why would anyone use it with GE then? I'm really confused with this, am I wrong somewhere?

I think this model can continue too.

No. A new interface will be developed to. Game Editor doesn't will have two interfaces.
Interface can be used both with GE and C++ delivering the same abilities for a developper.
I don't know what other developers will do with the interface code.
When you have the code of some product, will can derive infinite other products.
I think the questions will become clear after the code release and the other developers start work on the code.

maks is saying that you'll only have to have advertisement in every binary if the whole GE project becomes free.
Also, I've thought of the same thing, well, you can do it this way: In the intro you'll obviously have your own logo/the logo of the game flashing up like in the pro games. Make the first flash be the game editor logo with website adress, next flash: the rest of your game, that's it, the rest is yours.
Else, the advertisement doesn't have to be like the current one, you can make is smaller, or you can add it to credits and that's about it there.
But also, you can stick to the older 1.3.9
And this is jusst what happens to something that is completely free... You have to pay the price somewhere, else the developer has no profit at all....

Makslane, even though this is good news in a way since it means that development will continue on GE, I too am rather concerned about having to show a GE splash screen in the beginning. Will your paying customers still be allowed to publish products without showing any splash screens?
I guess we can still use the current GE that we have to release products. I'd like there to be future versions without any splash screens though. Currently we thank Makslane in the credits of our products.
I guess we have to wait and see what happens.

Guess I sit on the fence with the rest of the paid for registered users. While the idea of an open interface development sounds great, wondering if having to go back to splash screen for everyone would be stepping on the toes of those who supported GE enough to fork out the cash for it over those who just want something to pass the time. I think maybe if you offered a upgrade path for registered users to omit the splash screen, while still offering the casual user full ability with the splash, you could make both sets of parties happy. I myself promote GE even more as a registered user.
As far as a place to distribute development, my vote goes to sourceforge. Their reputation as open source distribution goes without saying.
In the end, I look forward to whatever path you take, and will follow whatever lead you wish to take. The GE community is by far the most cordial development community I work with. I think with the community the way it is, the open interface development will be a positive influence on an already great development platform.

I am really happy the new version is coming out soon, but as a paid user I am a little troubled by the splash screen also.
I know there are certain publishers who wouldn't be willing to distribute your product because of links, and in game advertisement.
I am hoping that there is the two options for GE, a paid version free of ads, and possible links, and the free version with more power
to you Mak, with adds, and other revenue generating options.
I also have to say on a side note, Great Job Mak
I love GE, and will continue to love it.
Best Regards

That new interface looks interesting.
But I agree. Stay with the same watermark options.
Free version = watermark.
Full version = watermark free.
But I have one question. Does this version have the online compatibility?

The new interface is not ready. I will release a unfinish code. So, other developers can help me!

Regarding the splash screens, I don't really care if the game displays one at the beginning; however, it would be cool if it was a game option (so you can make your own).
Heres what I suggest: Just make it a condition that when you publicly release an exported version of the game, you need to include a splash screen of some sort. You can make this yourself, using various actors, to get a custom result. Or if you don't want to make the extra actors and scripts, you could maybe have a few default ones to choose from in game properties (but make an option to turn it off to make your own).

I also dont mind the splash screen... I think it would make it just like any other game...
just look at Grand theft auto for example. At the beginning made by rockstar games
it would not be any different than that really. I actually think that it would make a game
look
more professional, not less, especially if it was a neat logo with the pac-man thing
somehow. Kall has one at the start of his sickman blast

and threre is nothing wrong with it
