Advertise Game Editor

As you all know, Game Editor is basically dead without change. This is for many reasons; mainly there is no funding for the devs and the little activity on the forums, suggesting no one is using it but the true supporters. Since funding is hard when there is only a small support group (even smaller when you realise a lot can't legally give money as they are under 18), what we need to do is attract more people. Some possible ideas for this are:

a. A proper youtube channel dedicated to showing off new games being developed as well as housing video tutorials
b. A kickstarter campaign that will both provide money to those willing to update the source code as well as providing interest in GE
c. A social media presence, not as easy but with the right planning, possibly a quick way to get interest

Of course the best thing would be to just reskin the program and add the features that the forums have been begging for during the past couple of years, ie proper phone exporting and testing, rotation, a fixing of features such as move to, etc, but the list above avoids any tampering of the code to get more people involved.
I personally think that the youtube channel is the best op but I'll let you all decide. If it was a youtube channel, there would have to be a couple of people running it and posting every two or three days for it to become noticed

How will advertising help gE? I mean lot and lots of people stumble upon this site every day and the spam here is proof of that. I suggest we do a makeover to the front page so people don't come here thinking "yay a program were I can make video games without programming!" Cause that's not how gE is like. What do you say we update the Wikipedia page on gE?

Advertising helps in two ways:
a. more people interested means the devs are more likely to return to update, even if they make it cost a small fee. With a large enough user base, they would make a profit, which in turn encourages more updates

b. the forum is basically dead now. I have never been active the same time someone else has been for a long time now. By making a new community, the forum will become alive again and will be able to aid those with a wide range of views, opinions, tips, etc.

Updating the home page and the Wikipedia page would help but I'm suggesting a larger approach so that the people coming here don't come just by chance but because they saw a reference or were recommended. Right now when searching game creation software on google, GE doesn't turn up till the third page. With more users this will elevate, thus creating more possible clicks

So you plan on using money to boost gE development? How do we raise the funds? Who will fund this?

No, the only thing I meant for money was its use as an encouragement for the devs to continue updating by putting a price on the software

If I remember correctly, game editor was once a paid software. It was great for the time it was a paid software, but now that it's free, and outdated, who would buy it?

I think a donation system like the one in Ubuntu would be more suttable.

Advertising literally will not help in the slightest.

I'm sure GE gets enough exposure, it's on various "learn to develop games" lists.

It's issue is that it's inactive and there's nobody actively developing it. Getting advertisements\donations won't help the program be developed, because nobody is developing it.

That's why all I'm saying is that we should give the devs an incentive to update

Then why was gE made free in the first place?

Because it was made open-source.

To (try to) attract more developers.

Obviously it failed.
