Thought i'd try help, i'm not sure if you've settled on a tileset resolution yet, so i did the grass and dirt tiles in 32x32, if you dig the style i'll gladly do more, if not that's cool
pixel'd on mobile with paintCAD

Are you guys gonna implement a grass grow timer on the top most layer like in Minecraft? If so i need to tweek them slightly, getting rid of the variance between raw dirt tile and with grass, so when the graphic swaps there is no jarring change in the tile, hope you understand what i mean, but yeah it depends if you will have growing grass on exposed y- dirt tiles..

that would be cool to make the grass grow.

okay crafting is done, all you need to do is add new items and add new recipes into the global code. i think you will understand my code easily camper. and if you dont i added lables. so far you can only craft planks, sticks, and wooden pickaxe. i used images from minecraft as a temporary image. and i changes variable "inventory" from [15] to [25] and i made variable "in" to an actor variable. also since the graphics are small i am able to port it to any device. but i only have a ppc so here is the ppc port also.

Update of what i've finished so far.
Imperialjester wrote:that would be cool to make the grass grow.
as far as i can tell it shouldn't be too hard to implement, just need to do some checks to see which tile is on top, and if it is when exposed ie the tile above is destroyed it checks if ontop and if it is it'll trigger a timed event on activation it'd just swap the tile graphic, i'd write an example in code but i suck, and i'm not sure how easy it is to add to your current system, but anyway hope one of you guys can, i adjusted the tiles just in case, i'll probably add a few more stones.
Btw have you guys even thought about trees yet? You going to scatter pre defined trees during generation, or generate trees with l-forms or some algorithm. The tree trunk tiles are seamless so you can generate wide trees ie. 2 tiles wide, also can you just walk past trees? It'd be painful if every tree had to be chopped down to explore the terrain

Just did a quick mock up of what'd look like with my tiles,
also i experienced a bug, but it might be known already, when you fall off the edge and then re-generate all the tiles at the top have some offset here's a screen. And i doubt it'd even be an issue if you have infinite terrain, and no ability to re-generate terrain in game.

thanks for saying so ^^
yeah it should be rather straightforward.
