Hi Matt,

Your journey begins with the Moon Defender Tutorial.

Hi Grasshopper (shame on Jazz-e-Bob  ) --- err that is, Hi Matt,

You might also want to take a look at this thread:

Game Editor will take you a little work, but it is well worth the effort. Once you get the idea, you will love the program. Post your questions here. There are many knowledgeable people in the forum.

Create your Actor (Paddle)
--> On the Actor Control click "Add" next to the "Event:" label
--> Click on Mouse Down Event
--> Next to "Press Mouse Button" click with your left mouse button
(You should see "left" displayed in the area now)
--> Now left click on "Add Action"
-->Select "Follow Mouse"
--> Select your Actor from the drop down listing or use
Event Actor.
--> Set the Axis to "X"
* OK so now when you move your mouse it will slide back and forth on the
X axis only of the screen. Pretty neat...

BTW, did you mean GE (Game Editor) instead of GM? Just curious... HTHs

still stuck

Matt,
Hmmmm, I think that you may have stumbled into the wrong forum! This forum is to support the truly amazing, fantastic, stupendous "Game Editor" (Yes, I'm hooked). This is *NOT* the Game Maker forum. Game Maker (GM) is another authoring tool that *ONLY* works on the WindowsOS.

*Game Editor (GE)* works on many, many platforms: Windows, Linux,MacOS,PocketPC,Symbian--the list keeps growing.
If you are going to invest the time to learn an authoring system, I do suggest that you focus on GE *NOT* GM. GE is a younger program, but it is much more flexible, has fantastic support, and a great forum.

Oh yes, did I mention that it runs on many, many platforms?
BTW, it is also reasonably priced.

Go here http://www.game-editor.com/download.html and download the demo. See for yourself.

*Now, after all of that, if you really do have Game Editor (GE), then you should see the "Add Actor" button on the menu at the top of your intial GE screen. Select it and the Create Actor box will jump up. Follow the previous post from there.

oh....ok

Matt,
Click on the link that I provided in my previous post. The link will take you to the Game Editor Demo Version. You can download it for free. You have 45 days to try out Game Editor before you have to decide whether to buy it or not. The demo version does not compile your programs. Using the Demo gives you some time to learn whether or not you want to buy it.
If you run the LinuxOS, there is a free version, but it only compiles your programs to Linux (I think. I am running WindowsOS).
Oh, and you have 45 days to save the money. HTHs.

Matt
if you've never done this before and REALLY want to progress and learn much MORE than a Click-and-Drop authouring tool like GM :| might bring to you, then use GE !
I knew NOTHING too. But with the precious help and support of this INCREDIBLE forum and morover GE's creator Makslane (the best of ALL !), you'll worship GE in less than one month ! Believe me ...

Any problem ? Come here, post it and Get it !

Of course you'll suck a bit at the beginning, but it's the case when you start learning any other program, hmmm
