Oh, whoops, I guess this thread is also (secretly) for me. :D Well, hmm, what can I say... Hello there, good fellows! The name's Simon, but I prefer to be referenced as EntropiaFox, I'm a CS student and an artist in my free time and, well, I like videogames. :) I have a little of experience with other game authoring tools, and while I could get down and do things "the hard way", coding many things from scratch (I worked with a friend for a while on another game project, written in C++ with Allegro ), I want to learn more about game design and development in general during my free time.

I've been starting to use GE just a few weeks ago. In fact, right now I'm working on my first game, which I will post about as soon as I think it's ready for feedback, trying to get used to its quirks and such. The forums have been really helpful with my doubts, even though I've posted just once, I believe. Expect more from me as I keep working on my game, though! :D

Hi everyone.

I joined a bit ago and am constantly on here reading through the questions and going through the tutorials and would like to thank all of you for the wealth of information that you have created here. Also there is no sign of negativity that I've read anywhere yet which amazes me.

So far I'm enormously pleased with the ease of use from GE and the wonderful friendly support from the community.

I've always been one to take on something way to big and have followed suit once again. My project seems quite massive but will be very interesting if it can be accomplished. As much as I hate to ask for help I may end up having to since code is not my strength. I can kind of read and have a hard time writing it.

Anyhow, pat yourselves on the back for making this forum such a nice place to search.

I just realized you're right, there isn't a lot of negativity here. I think it's because everyone here is extremely serious about games and making them

Hello to all!! My name is Issac, I like walks in the moonlight and I enjoy.... uh... wait... =p

Naw, I have been addicted to gaming since I was a 4 years old. I studied music composition at TSU and got my BA in that. I have always wanted to find work writing music for games but I can not seem to find anyone who needs any (since most programmers seem to be composers themselves.) So I decided I would try and learn some programming to make my own game so I can make my own music and SFX for.

I was looking into making a game for android so I dove into java headfirst and studied it for around 2 months and then I got so frustrated when actually trying to write my game that I just quit cold. (even though I made lots of progress...) So a few months later, I am back and rejuvenated ready for more.

I looked for hours on which program I was going to use for writing a game and chose gE because it takes care of most of the stuff that drove me insane and seemed pretty optimized. Plus, like Signato said everyone on the forums seems so laid back and friendly. It truly is a nice community which is hard to find in forums or anything that has to do with gaming. The sheer mass of knowledge on these forums is awesome and just by searching on here I have found solutions to darn near everyone of my problems.

Thanks guys and pleased to meet you all! Hopefully I can have a playable demo out soon!!

Hello Everyone,

I joined GE a week ago and it is awesome. I am currently a student so I am hoping to develop an app in my free time. :D I am completely new with programming, so I get REALLY confused when looking at code. Does anyone know a good book or tutorial that I could learn off of?

Also I want to ask one more thing. Does code almost become a second language after awhile?

Hello QuasarCreator :D

A good book you could try is 3d Game Programming all in one. It is the book I am using and all though it is 3d, it is a great book

Also, yes. Given enough time and experience, code will become a sort of second language. You might even have a hard time speaking in english haha :P

Welcome!
Here is a good C programming reference! http://game-editor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7635
And another one: http://game-editor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6073&p=42439&hilit=+tutorial#p42439

Yeah, programming for me just turns into a branch off of English. When I speak programming to other people, I find them just smiling and nodding most of the time.

I'm not nerdy enough to be fluent in JavaScript or Klingon though (+1 to anyone who knows where that's from  )

Here's a couple more urls. (The limit for a post is two)
http://game-editor.com/Tutorials
http://game-editor.com/Help
Also the search bar at the top of the forum is quite handy. There's a good chance someone asked the same questions you did at some point :D

@Jagmaster: I know that quote. It's Weird Al, White and Nerdy

It's a funny song. I listen to it whenever I program haha
