png to animation

How does game editor cut up a png into an animation? Is there a separate application that can do this? Because I have to either convert change it into a gif format or open game editor to test a set of sprites. It would be much easier and faster if there was something else that could do this.

I don't know any programs. I could try to make you a program (not with GE), that can do it, if you like me doing it.

it cutts it evenly into the number you select...
i suggest using paint and making tiles the right size for your animation, then tileing them over the screen
Step 1: Make Tile
Step 2: Draw first figure
Step 3: copy into correct number of tiles
Step 4: finish rest of animation
Step 5: remove tiles :D
heres an example

useful paint shortcuts for tiles:
Hold shift and drag mouse to make perfect squares with the square tool
hold Ctrl and drag with the select tool to copy the selected item
Ctrl+C = copy
Ctrl+V = Paste
Ctrl+X = Cut
Ctrl+Z = Undo
Ctrl+Y = Redo

not sure if this is what you wanted

I know how it does the animation, and I use gimp because I find the layers much easier to manipulate. I was just wondering if there was another application that I could use to test my sprites.

asmodeus, that would be much appreciated.

I tried it on Wine and on Windows, and both times it failed. It would be preferable to have it run on my linux machine. Could it be that I don't have all the required materials to run it?

Do you mean my Strip Animator? It should work on Windows XP (what I have) and also on Windows Vista. I don't know if anything else is required for that :( .
