I have got a question to masklane.
How many people are working on the GE and how many were there first? Are you the only one, did you have help by anybody first?

I'm not makslane, but I know he started working on this by himself. Now that he released the source files, anyone who knows how can do it.

Thats right! I hope get a lot of developers working on Game Editor evolution now with the open source model :-)

I have a question. I'm not really familiar with open source (besides the fact that there is a community behind it and many contributions are released under the GNU Documentation License, as with Linux), but wouldn't Game Editor be considered open source, or "free software" because of it's open source? Yet there is still a professional version to buy. I'm kind of baffled at the fact that GE is both "open source" and needs to be bought--but then again, I don't really know the depth of this kind of thing. So how does this all work?

The source code of Game Editor is completely available. Although the license doesn't follow the official open source definition from [url=http://www.opensource.org/docs/definition.php
]OSI[/url], the code is not closed any more and follows the open source development model.

You can get the code, compile, modify and make your games, but if you don't buy a copy of Game Editor you need to follow:

The following apply if the Licensse haven't purchased a copy of Game Editor at http://game-editor.com

(a) Licensee agrees to display a full screen, unmodified Game Editor Game logo for no less than four full seconds in the start up sequence of any game created GEC.
(b) Licensee agrees to include in the "About" box or in the credits screen: (i) a link to http://game-editor.com, and (ii) the wording "This game made with Game Editor."
(c) Licensee agrees to include in all product pages of any website thats shows the product: (i) a link to http://game-editor.com, and (ii) the wording "This game made with Game Editor."
(d) Licensor may use Licensee's name in connection with the Games and in any customer reference list or in any press release issued by Licensor regarding the licensing of the GEC.

So what exactly is the point of the open source? Is it so people can debug ge errors on their own games? Can anyone upload their open source contributions? If they can, will their contributions ever turn up in the next version of GE?

I have a concern about the source code. any scammer could come here and take the source code and make a better product than ge and sell it saying they have an original product.

Yes!

Can anyone upload their open source contributions?

Yes :-)

If they can, will their contributions ever turn up in the next version of GE?

This is the idea :-)

Anyone can make a better product derivated of the Game Editor sources, but needs to folow the license:

4. DERIVATIVE WORKS

A derivative work is defined as any product that incorporates or uses either whole or in part any part of the Game Editor sources, libraries, binaries, resources, documentation or tutorials and cannot create game applications. Any product created from modified Game Editor sources is still defined as a derivative work.
A competing work is defined as any product, web page, application, or system that creates game applications. A game application is any application that is written for the express purpose of entertainment.

The following restrictions apply to the creation of derivative works of GEC:

(a) Licensee agrees to include in the "About" box or in the credits screen: (i) a link to http://game-editor.com, and (ii) the wording "Derived from Game Editor."
(b) Licensee agrees to include in all product pages of any website thats shows the product: (i) a link to http://game-editor.com, and (ii) the wording "Derived from Game Editor."
(c) Licensee can't make a competing work

Interesting...
So you're saying that I could take the actual GE code and edit it?? :o :D
That would be awesome if I only knew the programming language! Btw, what language is it in?
I guess I should find out for myself...
