Hi yep:
There is a program called "Blender" that is supposed to be pretty good and free for 3D drawing, but... I've heard it is hard to learn. I can't really give an opinion because I haven't used it enough to get familiar with it. HTHs

Try PovRay http://www.povray.org. its free, and uses a programming interface rather than mouse work.

Personally, I use 3DSMax. That is the most powerful 3D modelling tool. But the most expensive too. About 4000 € !
However there is a free but limited version of Max called GMAX, usually used to make video games characters and objects.

Find it here http://www4.discreet.com/gmax/

Good luck

Try using Caligari TrueSpace 3.2..
It is free...
But if you want a better tool later, you can buy Caligari GameSpace (looks like TrueSpace, but I guess it is better than Max of how about ease.. uses simple bones animations.. nice surface rendering.. bump mapping.. etc etc etc)..

so.. it is this..

bye

TIP: Blender IS NOT hard to learn!
