NOVEMBER Tournament: Sports

It may be October, but it is not too early to think of November. In America, the World Series will be going on; NBA is just beginning, Hockey is not that far started either, and Football is in its prime with many teams racing ahead for the playoffs. I have decided the perfect theme for this month is sports (I am sure many other sports are going on, but as an American, I am ignorant of the rest of the world :P ). So, also the bonus took some time (as in a minute) to think of, but I have decided that the best symbolism of sports in November is none other than the Thanksgiving Football games, and thus turkey and gravy will be our bonus this time.

Here is a few pointers to give, think outside the box or in, whatever makes you happy. Even Pong would be a sports game accepted. Oh, did I say a few, oh well.

On to the grading rubric:
Theme- x/10- how well does it follow the theme of this tournament? If the theme total is less than an average of five points, you are disqualified.
Originality- x/10- Is this a new game, or is the same one that we always play and see?
Creativity- x/10- Do they use the elements in this game to enhance game-play?
Title- x/10- If you saw the title of this game, would it make you want to read the back?
effect of the quantity of sound- x/5- Do they fit in with the graphics, story, and overall, sound good?
effect of the quantity of music- x/5- Do they fit in with theme, story, action, and overall, make the tempo of the game?
graphics- x/10- Do they appeal to you, do they fit in with the theme, are they a good fit to the story?
game-play- x/15- Is this something with replay value, is it addicting, is it something that is was worth playing?
overall- x/20- How do you feel about this game as a whole?
Judge Total- x/95- The judge grading this must add up the above total to get one grand Judge Total.
Judge Bonus- x/10- Turkey and Gravy (The bonus must enhance the game, if you just put it in, but it adds no value to the overall feeling towards the game, then the bonus will not count).

I know many will not know about these tournaments, but I shall include a link to all Tournament topics, and even the two award ceremony topics.

If a tournament gets 4 contestants, there will be an award ceremony. This is good because not only will 1st place receive a prize, but so will 3rd and 2nd. As you can see above, there is a long history of these tournaments, with a good chunk having no one enter. Hopefully we can have at least 4 enter for an award ceremony, but it would be even better if we can tie or break the record set by the 1st with 7 or more contestants!

Thee deadline for these games will be on the 21st of November, 11:59:59 p.m Central US Time. If four enter, judge week will be from the 22nd-28th of November, and finally an award ceremony will be held on the 29th and 30th. Next tournament will start on November 28th.

If you want to be a judge, say so on this topic, or pm me, or if you see me on chat, you can tell me on there. Judges, do not release scores at all and do not judge until judge week.

Have fun and get started! :D

Sounds fun and thanks for the info Night of Horror.
I can't participate due other projects/games but hopefully this event gains some new developers.
Sports games are fun, but I can imagine there are a ton of variables and plays to consider. A big undertaking for more complex sports games.

Does pong count as a simple tennis game?

The due date is November 21st, so that's not much time to program a complex sports game. Hopefully anyone that already has a sports game in the works will post it here.

Yeah, Pong does count as a sports game in this tournament.

Well, the purpose of this tournament isn't to really create a complex game. That would take months, even years for that to happen. It is just a push, you get started, then you work on it from there. Maybe you make a simple dodge-ball game in the tournament, but realize how much it can be expanded. Then you finish it from there.

Thanks for the info. I'm picturing a simple basketball or soccer game where you either toss the ball at the hoop or goal to score points. The trick there would be the physics of the ball.

@NoH :

That's the way, GE is brought back into business, not babbling, but doing !

And when even Pong is allowed, we can hope for some contestants...

Soon I will open a thread for my candidate, a very abstract sportsgame.
But I don't believe, I can finish the computer player KI in the three weeks,
will see, how far I come !

Thanks for continuing with your tournaments, and don't worry : If there really
no more people are joining, then whole the beer is ours !

Cheers !

 That's true, that fewer contestants, the better chance of winning this tournament. :)

Wait so it has to have a football in it?
Darn, came up with a good plan involving sports that don't have a football

@ Barney :
No, you don't must have a football in your game, just any sports !
And since computergaming counts as sports itself, anything goes !

Cheers !

@ Barney (and others !) :
Work, exams, whatever, that all are just lame excuses !
You have several 5-minutes over the day, where you can develop your
game, part by part, just in your brain, or making little notices.
And when you really have some time at the computer, you can work out
your plan, spotting on the production process.

Just wanted to add on for any confused that the bonus is not required either. Just a tie-breaker.

Nice to see some added enthusiasm!
