Questions about bird's eye view

I'm wanting to make a game with zombies and survivors in it. I want to make the view bird's eye following the player. How would I make the background and player models? I've watched and read the tutorials and i'm still confused about it.. any help and info would be greatly appreciated.

Ok do you mean like resident evil game type. Let me know so I can post a demo.

no exactly. Kinda like the "Hunter" line of games... I guess the best way to describe it is kinda like Zombie Apocolypse
