Android runs on java programming language but is converted to apk. files when exported. Most compilers out there now require 2GHz of ram , which is not efficent. Is there any actual development on android as we speak?

The Game Editor port for Android can be a native code (doesnt need to be Java).
The Android market is growing fast, and the Android port is very important.
Here is some info:

Ok how far along is the port. I looked at the android marketplace and believe me we got guys here making way better games. Iphone is tough market but android is easy. What we call a demo they charge 2.99 ,,,,I think we could do better there.

Good news. Android port is about to be finalized. My current game project "bouldercrash" is now running on a HTC Desire, Android 2.2 wich is very impressive.
It was and is still a lot of work and we hope to find some people supporting this project!!!
If u want to be save that your game runs on android make sure that u can support 800x480 and touchscreen like iphone. Make sure
that you do not call getkeystate() on mobile.
Not yet finished but yet working:
OpenGLES support (important for performance)
WAV, OGG
Touchscreen
APK Installation
Gamefile access using internet download
NO SDL license required due to dynamic linking
Screen resolution: 800x480
ToDo:
Sending to Background generates a error message
MikMod
Repeatkey on tourchscreen
Gamefile packed into .apk package
Smaller screen resolutions like 320x480
The plan is to provide a addtl. section/site with the iphone engine and android engine without splashscreen supported.
Means we might provide these two engines as a supported non-splashscreen variant. Support was often requested for serious game development.

This is great news. Is there a projected date when we can start using/testing it? Also this means the licenses will be split with the advent of the two engines?

wowee! superb news indeed..
like the previous poster, i too am wondering what did you mean with the licensing thingy, care to elaborate?
and yes, when can we play around with it?
this is probably the best news yet for android... and GE being the first platform providing a game editing tool!
keep up the excellent work!

Sadly that probably means expensiver license. Please say it doesn't. 1500 is a lot and i hate to have it more.

Oh no
If that is the case, what is the advantage of sticking to GE over other products like Unity?

Android is the OS. So your comparison should be Android vs. Maemo. You mean Maemo would be the OS to compare with (instead of the N900's hardware), right?
