Sounds like fun! :) i'm gonna do it. However, I can't make music and I want to own everything, so is it okay if there's just sound effects?

Actually I'm still in the "Maybe" process :P But I'll try though, and if I get one done i'll post it.

Audio is one of the categories of judging. It's unrealistic to be perfect in every category so just try your best and have fun.

Make sure the sound effects you use are either creative commons or that you own the rights.

I might join, as I was discussing before with Phyzix and SuperSonic my game idea.

I'd just need a programming to make a type of inventory system and misc stuff.

Had been thinking more of the project, it'd rock if I could get it done :)

This is a cool idea, I would love to see a bunch of games released at the same time. And it would be interesting to have a central theme of the games being released. I will definitely try and participate for the latest "Jam". :D

Original post has been updated to indicate that the games should be posted on the Game Demos board.

Give it a try. The worst that can happen is you end up with an unfinished game. But at least you got to test some of your ideas out to see how they work and you proved to yourself that you could do something like this.

phyzix5761 wrote:Rules for Game Editor Weekend Jam:

1. You may work alone or in a team of no more than 3 people.
2. The game must be created from scratch in 72 hours (3 days).
3. Games should be based on the theme of the jam.
4. Only creative commons graphics and/or your own graphics and animations may be used.
5. Ged and data files are not required but are appreciated.
6. The game must be created with Game Editor.
7. You must submit your game by Sunday 11:59 pm.

Allowing to submit work before the event would ruin the point (hence the rule).

Just saw this, thought it sounds awesome. If I have time, I'll certainly give it my best shot!

I have a few questions though, sorry if I sound legalistic;

  • Is the jam going to take place on Thursday Friday and Saturday, or on Friday, Saturday, Sunday? Probably doesn't matter as long as it's three days I guess. (The dates listed are thurs through sat.)
  • Is the use of 1.5 Preview allowed?
  • Is it okay to use textures from http://www.cgtextures.com/? According to their license you aren't allowed to use the textures in an open source game, so if I did use them, obviously the game would have to be closed source. Only reason I asked was because they aren't technically under a creative commons license, but you are permitted to use them for private or commercial use without paying any royalties etc.
  • Is this gonna rock or what?

That's about it. Hopefully I can find some time to do something like this. Or come up with an epic idea.
We will see an increase in demos, so that in itself will be cool.

I made a mistake. The jam will always take place during Friday, Saturday, Sunday. So the days of the first jam are the 16th-18th. That gives everybody one more day to think and plan.

I would suggest not using 1.5 since not everyone has access to it (Mac users for example).

The images need to be under creative commons.

This will definitely rock!
