Thinking about a "build your own robot" fighter

Trying to think of ideas for a 2 player game where you assemble little fighters out of parts and fight in arenas.
I've done this kind of thing before, but the thought always sounded fun, especially since I love games like custom robo
With the upcoming update with screen scaling, not sure if it can be used to keep players zoomed in on screen like a smash brothers game or if the size is fixed, I'll figure that out when its released
and the eventual ge protocol which should for the first time give us some playable online multiplayer
I thought it would be a good time to actually plan out the game
It could be a simple splitscreen menu where you choose different pieces and then fight
or a game where you collect parts in the arena and can have damage to individual parts
Anyone have any thoughts?

Well, this is really nice idea.
Robots may have XP and collect or earn money. Depending on that, you could upgrade your robots.

Cool idea! I'd like to see this happen Speckford in some form.
A single player mode would be cool too.
First thing would be to get a basic fighter game demo working, then the more complicated aspects of bonus power ups added to assemble the parts and other features during the fight if that was the goal.

Since we won't have the multiplayer support for a bit, what would be a good singleplayer mode in the meantime?

That's a neat idea, maybe have little droids that spawn during a match that give you gold when they are killed
I'll probably draw up some crude placeholder artwork and see what I can make once I figure out the core concepts

Will this be similar to Rock'em Sock'em Robots, the game where the robots are in the boxing ring or arena?
A single player mode could be as simple as fighting another enemy AI Bot, instead of a human player. Programming the AI would be the challenge. Each time it's defeated, a new bot with a higher difficulty would appear. Just some ideas.

Oh no, it's going to be a little sidescrolling platformer fighter
it will make more sense when I get something done to show

Can't wait to see a screenshot of the game so far! The concept is really interesting speckford! Keep up the progress!

Constructing the robot sounds cool. Different levels of armor can provide more protection, or lighter armor, more agility.

I was thinking, should I have a little build screen that you use before a battle, or should you be able to upgrade your robot on the fly during combat?

Maybe a little build screen would be better.

Whatever you think would be easier or more fun in the game. A pre screen could be more strategic, requiring more thoughtful planning, though at the same time, adjusting the bot in game on the fly could be like getting new power ups, requiring quick reflexes to adjust to the new upgrades or armor, pieces added and how they might affect gameplay.
Either way sounds like fun.

I'm working on a build screen setup at the moment, but perhaps the ability to fight for item drops or altars could be a possibility in the future
