I have some crude setups started, but oh well, I'll focus on gameplay first and worry about fancy menu screens and polished art later, haha

Any ideas for parts?
Robots are currently being assembled with Legs, Torso, Head, Gun and Pod(back mounted weapon)

Parts sound good so far:

Legs
Arms
Weapons
Head
Torso

Will he be missing limbs and still be able to move around or will armor attach to his limbs?

I could set individual health since each part is it's own actor, such as if your legs are damaged you move slower or stop
currently the rest of the parts are parented to the legs, since the legs control movement

This is a great idea, however all parts would just be as important. Without arms you can't attack, rendering you helpless, without the head you'd die instantly... Or maybe you plan to do it differently? :P
EDIT: Fixed quoting

maybe temporarily disabling that part until it recovers, coupled with an overall player health

Reminded of the Genesis game, Decap Attack. In it, the skeleton guy could walk around with a full body, and then when he was hit, he would punch with his stomach. It was a strange game and very tough, but one example of how to approach the multiple parts character.

Another one is the arcade game Gladiator, where if you got hit in certain areas, the armor would break off. Your game may be very different from these games, though the concept does remind me of these classic games, which is a good thing. 8)

This is a nice idea, rather than 1 part, whole game.
Looking forward to your progress Speck. :D

Thanks Jonathang~
I'm just trying to figure out a good single player mode while working on some of the art
I have ideas for multiplayer, but I don't want to get too far into that until the online project gets an initial release put out

maybe waves of enemies, perhaps a 'defend your base' style game
hrmmm

Maybe a bunch of mini games like in smash where you beat your highscores in home run contest.

Speckford, how are things progressing with the Robot Fighter game?

I love custom robo and robopon so this game sounds cool. I think a parts shop would be cool especially one that gets new parts as you progress. also for a story mode I think a tournament of sorts with you being able to pick a part from your defeated enemy. also think about pilots with a unique personality to add to the story.

Cool. That idea reminds me of BattleTech (Battletech: Crescent Hawk's Inception), an old video game series. You'd see Mech Pilots in each Mech and they could get out of the Mech and explore the open world. That old game would probably be easy to create using Game Editor, since it was a 2D top down view of the little character who could freely get into a variety of Mechs, upgrade the Armor, weapons, scavenge parts from fallen Mechs, etc. 8) There was even an Arena where the Mechs could fight for money.

I don't know if I'm going to continue this project.
All the game making passion I had worked up was pretty much destroyed by this forum.

With all the hopeful updates and projects being made for game editor, like screen controls, resizing, the online module, all of it showing up just to give false hopes before being abandoned. It's hard to stay motivated about a game that I started because I wanted to play it with friends.

And all the fighting here, this forum really knows how to make someone feel not welcome.

I'll still show up from time to time and look around because I have fond memories of this place, but I probably won't be as active as I have been.

Well, sorry to hear about the project being abandoned.
Best to make a game that motivates you to finish it (a small game is the best start), and not worry what's going on with the forum since almost every forum has people on there with problems. Best of luck with your future projects.
