Well, there's a bit of MIDI creators out there (and BELIEVE ME, not very many are free. :S It took me months to find a good free one.) But, of all I've used, I'd recommend to you Anvil Studio. It's freeware, but it gets the job done.

Hope that helps! :)

You cannot and will never be able to convert mp3 or any other type of simple wave form data into a MIDI file NEVER!!!!

MIDI is a module file, a special one, it uses pre-recorded sounds that is saved on the sound card midi-processor, and it plays them at variable speed and at different envelope, all files has a looping point exept for channel 10 (Drums and stuff, things that you hit xD) and there for, you cannot convert any wave format into a midi file.

But I would not suggest you a midi program, but a tracker program, try google'ing for openMTP if you can't find it, you can always try mod plug tracker vanila, its the same program, but not as much as good.

The search space for a program to match samples from an mp3 to midi notes would be astronomical. Its not really feasible.

Computer Music magazine suggests Transcribe from Seventh String:

It works best with monophonic audio files rather than polyphonic ones.

Widisoft's widi_vst will do it. Not quite as well as Transcribe and you will need a vst host to plug it into such as Reaper from Cockos.

If you want detailed instructions on how to do this you will need the April 2007 edition of Computer Music magazine (a magazine from the UK).

Yeah, but it should come to an incredibly choppy level, cuz MIDI files doesn't have sound modules for Techno, Death Metal or hardcore gabber.

EDIT: Just tried it, its really not worth it, I tried placing a music (Techno) All I hear is weird piano, that does not even goes whit the music!

It is worth it for people who are Musician to convert their creation onto midi.
