Anybody what to try?

Would anyone like to try 6 early levels of my first game? It's really to give me an idea of how hard you find it, your first impressions and if there are any button problems. There are currently 10 comeplete levels with another 22 levels in different environments mapped out and in development. I'm developing on a system with no directional pad so I don’t know how compatible the game will be with other PPC's. If you'd like to try it, all I ask is that you do your best to fill out a simple form so I can get some kind of standardised feedback.

Diana Kennedy.
I am definitely interested to try t out, but I will ask some time to give feedback

That’s no problem; all feedback is valuable even if it’s a week or two before you can reply. I’ve got plenty to carry on with ;)

Anyone interested in testing this cut down version please post here AND email/PM me so I can send you the login and password details you need to download it.

The game is simple to play and the controls are simple. Left and Right are all you need to press; and you tap the character with your stylus to make him jump, that’s it! There are (in the downloadable version) Flame Throwers, Doors that work on buttons, Monsters and Vials that allow you to kill them, Elevators operated by pressing on screen icons, Compressors that crush the player, a time-up Ghost and more. Its a light puzzle-action platformer and should be fun and not too difficult. I’ll post a link to a web page with full gameplay instructions and hints/tips as soon as its ready :)

Thanks both for the kind comments on the screenshots! I use Paint Shop Pro do all the art, including title screens, backdrops, items, tiles and the animations. The main character is the most animated actor in the game, I'm trying not to have to much animation but striking a balance is important; one reason is that I’m trying to keep the game as small as possible so it’ll run on the widest range of PPCs. I started his walk animation by drawing a basic body and head, copied them 8 times so they were one under the other to create the frames (much like the character animation that comes with GE ) then placed vectors (easily editable lines on their own layer) over them to create the arms and the feet. I then went through each frame of his animation tweaking the arms and legs until it looked fluid, when that was ok I merged all the layers, added some proper colours, some finer details and shading. I'm no artist and it takes me a long time to get something I'm happy with. Unfortunately it means that my game is taking a long time to finish. Hopefully it’ll be worth it! :)

New PC and PPC versions

Due to popular demand in about a week I’ll be releasing a PC version for testing (this will be the PPC version exported for PC), I’d release it sooner but I’m redoing the way the characters collision works. When new PC and PPC versions are ready I’ll post again, let me know if any of you would like to try these new versions and which version you’d like! Again all I ask is some feedback and if you’ve time the filling out of a simple form.

Thanks for your help people :)

A Windows PC test version will be released on Sunday (5th). The final product will not (NOT) be for PC so all I’m really after is people who what to try it and give feedback on the game, gameplay, art and sound all the while trying to appreciate that it’ll be released as a Pocket PC title only.

This release will be limited to 7 levels.

Controls are simple..

Move Left: Left Cursor Key
Move Right: Right Cursor Key
Jump: Click the mouse on the character to jump

Please PM me if you want to try it, and please, don’t ask for a version if you are just curious, I really need feedback this time or there’s really no point releasing versions here!

Improvements over the previous PPC release are mainly to do with character movement; the addition of a story screen with text fading in at the bottom of a scroll and fading out at the top of a scroll is the biggest addition.

Dianna, I'll PM you when its ready!

Thanks

Ok, I’ve just uploaded new PPC and WIN demos (remember that the final release will be pocket pc only)

I've PM'd those of you who were interested with the username and password, thanks for your help!

Remember, please give me some feedback, and if you can I'd really like the completed GE user text doc emailed/PM'd to me (found in the same folder as the game exe)

Improvements over the previous demo include:
..Improved player collision when moving
..No player ‘wobble’ if standing on a tile edge
..Story Screen with text fading in and out at the top and bottom as it scrolls
..Introduction of Game Modes screen (only Story Mode is selectable)
..New Music (added to Story Screen)
..New splash screens on loading and exiting the game
